This is the
fourth year the Robotics Club has been at Waiakea High School. The Waiakea High School Robotics Club is well known for its success in competition and for its Kalua Pig fundraisers. It has competed in FIRST, HURC/MATE, and Botball.
Most of the club members who have graduated are now attending college and are majoring in engineering. Anyone who is interested in technology is welcome to join, especially if you are looking into the engineering field.
This year during first semester the WHS Robotics Club participated in the HURC/MATE competition. They entered three teams that flew over to compete at UH-Manoa on Oahu. The teams won first, third, and fifth in the state. This was the first time that a WHS team won the state championship. Second semester, the club entered the Botball competition. The task was a search and resuce operation in which they needed to get Botguy, Tribbles and Supply balls onto their side. The WHS Teams won:
Double Elimination Finalists:
Waiakea High School Team 06-0135
Waiakea High School Team 06-0136
Overall Tournament Winners:

2004-2005
Due to insufficient funding, the team did not travel to the mainland for the FIRST competition; instead they participated in the HURC/MATE competition at UH Manoa's Duke Kahanamoku Swimming Pool. The task of this competition was to build an ROV (Robotic Operated Vehicle) that could operate under water. Six tasks had to be accomplished in twenty-five minutes. Waiakea High had entered two teams, an all-girls team and an all-boys team. The girls team placed second in the state and the boys team tied for third in the state. Since this competition only took up the first semester, the club also participated in the Botball competition, which was held at Oahu's Conventional Center. In this competition, it was required to make a Lego Robot which was to be programmed to do tasks. The girls team placed first in the seeding round and second overall. The boys team took third in seeding and fifth overall. This year we had 7 seniors, 7 juniors, 9 sophmores, and 6 freshmen.
2003-2004
In the club's second year, the team entered again into the FIRST Robotics Competition. In that year, the task was to move jumbo balls into goals using the Robot. This year there were 6 seniors, 5 juniors, 10 sophmores, and 6 freshmen. The team placed 27/40 in the Portland, OR competition.
2002-2003
The Robotics Club was started off by the idea of participating in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. The task was to build a 135-pound Robot that could push/pick up boxes. The club at that time consisted of 8 seniors, 2 juniors, and 5 freshmen. They formed Team 1056, in which they placed 14/40 in the Seattle, WA competition.
