SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Seniors interested in applying for the HAWAII ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP:  Completed packets should be turned in to GRAC no later than Monday, January 26.   DO NOT mail packets in to the Rotary Club.   See Mrs. Sakai-Kawada for more information. - T. Kawada

JUNIOR COUNTRY FAIR

Need to make room for all of the presents you'll be receiving from Santa this year?  Start cleaning out your room and donate it to the class of 2010.  Collections for rummage sale (clothes, toys, kitchen items, etc.)  items will be taken, starting today and running through December 19 in P4. - P. ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP LABS IN HAWAII

 The Kohala Center & Brown University are offering scholarships for two Hawaii Island students to participate in an Enviromental Leadership Lab. Students get to study biology, ecology and cultural traditons of the islands w/ other students fr. around the country. The scholarship students are selected on a needs basis. PUNAHOU SCHOOL INTERNATIONAL CENTER

Punahou School offers three study trips in the summer of 2009 ---- to China, Costa Rica and Japan. These study trips are offered to students currently enrolled in gr. 10 & 11. Selection is based on academic record, recommendations & personal interview. Financial aid in varying amts. is available to qualified applications. Deadline for applications : January 15, 2009. STUDY ABROAD - DISCOVER JAPAN

Hawaii Tokai International College is offering students a chance to enroll in HTIC  in the summer or Fall terms and take Japanese language and culture courses, as well as other General Ed. courses. MISS TEEN INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

Applications are now being accepted for the title of  Miss Teen Hawaii International. There is no swimsuit competition.  Competition enclude: Private interview, Fitness wear, Fashion wear, Evening gown. THE GREATEST TIME OF YEAR:  WINTER WEEK 2008:

Wear holiday costumes tomorrow (North Pole Invasion).  There will be a relay race in the quad during lunch recess.  Each team must consist of 4 students and 1 teacher/staff.  Sign up in E-103.   - D. Tanabe

The commencement committee would like submissions of an original poem and/or artwork for  our commencement booklet.  Theme:  Reason to Believe.  Submit your creation(s) for selection by 1-16-2009 to Mrs. Irie in R202. - K. Irie

NATIVE AMERICAN, ALASKA NATIVE OR NATIVE HAWAIIAN SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS

There will be a College Horizons' presentation on January 16, 2009 at 11:00 -11:45 in the library for top 10th & 11th graders who are Native American, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  The College Horizons program is a 5 day "crash couse" in preparing for college.  Students will learn about a broad variety of colleges and universities and be able to establish relationships with admission representatives and college counselors.   If interested in applying for this program, please go to GRAC to sign up for a pass for this presentation.  If you have any questions, please go to GRAC or see you counselor. - H. UH-MANOA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

No cost, summer intership ( June 15-July 24th) available to juniors at the UH-Manoa campus.  Intern will be responsible for paying his/her own way to Manoa.  See Ms. Yanagisawa or GRAC for questions and/or application. - P. Yanagisawa

IKAIKA NA MANA'O CONCESSION

Please come and support our "Ikaika Na Mana'o" program by purchasing items from our after-school concession at C101. We have daily specials ranging from pizza, cheeseburgers, tacos and a variety of other items. Stop by and enjoy some yummy treats! - L. Kiyonaga

JV BASEBALL TRYOUTS

A reminder to all JV baseball candidates:  Tryouts for the Waiakea High School Junior Varsity 2009 Baseball team will be held on Monday, December 29, 2008 at 9am at Warrior Field.  Be sure you have a current athletic physical on file with the Athletic Trainers (or bring the physical to the field on the 29th), and permission forms properly filled out and signed by your parents/guardians.  Make sure you are properly attired. - G. All potential candidates for this year's Varsity Baseball Team are asked to attend an important meeting in E - 102 on Thursday (12/18/08) during lunch recess (12:25 pm).  Don't be late! - G. Mau

All freshmen interested in doing the class act for Variety Show: Please come to Mrs. Fujioka's room in R-201 during lunch on Wednesday, December 17. The meeting will start promptly five minutes after the bell.  - J. Iokepa
