2009-10 AP HISTORY

Any student interested in taking AP World or AP US History in the 2009-10 school year,  need to see Mrs. King ASAP before school, morning recess or after school in U303. - P. King

AFTER HOURS REGISTRATION COUNSELING (DEC 1-10):

Students, if you need assistance in completing the 2009-10 course registration form, come to library from 1 - 6 p.  Get quick answers on credit checks, diploma requirements for graduation, etc.;  Parents /guardians are welcome. - J. Nekoba

SCHOLARSHIP FOR JUNIORS

DISCOVER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM  - Any current Junior who has at least a 2.75 cum.  G.P.A. is qualified to  apply for the scholarship program. And if  you demonstrate accomplishments in community service and leadership while overcoming an Obstacle. Up to 10 scholarships of $30,000 each.  Applications are now available at www.applyists.net from Dec. 1st, 2008, to  January 31, 2009,or www.discoverfinancial.com/community . UHHILO - SCHOLARS W/ DISABILITIES TUITION WAIVER

UH Hilo is pleased to announce the availability of the Scholars w/ Disabilities Tuition Waiver  designed for students w/ disabilities who are interested in attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Tuition Fee Waiver will be applied towards the tuition fee in the amt. of $1,000. Deadline: December 12, 2008. If interested or for more information, come to GRAC.

JANICE M. SCOTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND  -  Deadline:  June 30, 2009. GPA -of 2.5 or higher. Must be enrolled in a university full-time during school yr. of 2009-2010 and have demonstrated leadership abilities through  participating in community services, extra curricular or other activities. ASVAB TEST

Just a reminder - ASVAB testing is scheduled for Thursday, January 15th,  at 8:15am. - 12:00pm in the Waiakea High School Library. (Periods 1, recess, 3 & pd.5 ) Although the ASVAB  is a military test to gain entrance into the military, it is also a helpful and useful exam to see where your strengths and interests are. PRINCE KUHI'O HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIP  -  Applicants must be of Hawaiian ancestry, GPA. - 2.5 , demonstrate academic and leadership potential. Essay required.Deadline:  April 1, 2009. If interested, come to GRAC. - N. Okinaka

SPEAK OUT AGAINST VIOLENCE

The WHS Right Track Program is holding a Speak Against Violence Poster Contest.  All students are eligible.  Submit all posters to the Teacher's Workroom in Building E by December 19th.  You could win an Ipod Shuffle! - C. Pineda-Ball

CANDY CANE AND KISSES -  

Send someone a candy cane and kisses for $1.50.  Limited number of bags will be on sale from Dec. 8 - 12 in front of E-103 during lunch recess.  Candy bags will be distributed on Wed., Dec. 17th in advisory.  So, purchase these sweet treats for your special friends and let them know that you're thinking of them this holiday season.    - K. PHOTOGRAPHY ELECTIVE NEXT YEAR

Please note that starting next year ALL photography classes are Digital. Students taking the course will need to provide their own Digital Camera of any kind, except a cell phone of course. Sign up soon, as classes are fillng up :) - A. Kelly

STUDENTS INTERESTED IN TAKING AP ENGLISH

Students who want to take AP Junior or Senior English must complete the recommendation form with parent signature and turn them in to me along with your registration form as soon as possible.  Registration forms are due December 10, Wednesday.  I am in room Q202. - C. Ray

SATURDAY SCHOOL

The last Saturday School for this semester will be held this Saturday, December 13 from 8am-12:20pm in the school cafeteria. Students must have assigned work and a valid WHS ID to enter. AFTER SCHOOL CONCESSION FOR IKAIKA NA MANA'O

Please come and support our "Ikaika Na Mana'o" program by purchasing items from our after-school concession at C101. We will have daily specials ranging from pizza, cheeseburgers, tacos, hot dogs and a variety of other items. Stop by and enjoy some yummy treats! - L. Kiyonaga

Viewpoints 2008 - 2009, Program #4 via DOE channel 56 - ViewPoints program #4, "Budget Reductions & Restrictions," on PBS Hawaii, KHET, Sunday, December 28th, at 3:30 p.m.

Auto Desk Software - Free show & tell of Autodesk software.  The free show & tell will be on Friday, December 12th from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. at Hawaii Community College Building 381, room 14.  The show & tell will concentrate on software related to digital media art & computer game design, although Visucate does offer products related to engineering software, classroom management software, and VEX Robotics.
