GENERAL

COLLEGE PRESENTATION

HAWAII COMMUNITY COLLEGE PRESENTATION  -  Hawaii Community College will be doing a presentation on Tuesday, November 25th, at 9:30am in the WHS Library. The presentation will focus on the Kama'aina Application.  This application is only offered at HCC here in Hilo. You as a student applying for Community College need not fill out the common UH application form. All you need is the Kama'aina Application. The process is fast and simple. HCC offers a wide variety of courses, and you can get your degree in 2yrs. If interested, come to GRAC (Port. 12 ) or to the Compass Testing Room in Q-203 to get a pass. - N. Okinaka

Sign up for the 9th Annual DECA Dare to Drink Milk Tug of War competition to be held in the quad on November 21, 2008 during lunch.  Join Kat from KWXX for some HEALTHY competition between classes.  10 boys and 10 girls are needed for each grade level, please see your head advisor to sign up TODAY!  Deadline to sign up is Thursday, November 20th, 12noon.  Be prepared with your class spirit, teamwork, strong bones and SHOES (gloves will be provided). - S. YEARBOOKS FOR SALE

The yearbook class will be selling old yearbooks at discounted prices this week only.  Students can purchase a 2006 yearbook for $ 35.00, a 2007 yearbook for $40.00 or a 2008 yearbook for $45.00.  All three yearbooks will be sold on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, Thursday, November 20, 2008 and Friday, November 21, 2008 at lunch recess in D-201.  You will need to purchase these books with cash.  Also, we will be taking orders for the 2009 yearbook on these dates.  The cost for the 2009 yearbook is $50.00 and students can order the book with cash or a check written out to WHS. Remember that time is running out if you plan to get your 2009 yearbook engraved.   - K. Castillo

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP -  Offers college scholarships of $10,000 & $25,000  to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, community & workplace. Applicant is asked to describe in detail an outstanding achievement they have accomplished in a non-academic activity or project. Deadline: December 15, 2008.

FILIPINO WOMEN'S LEAGUE  -  The applicant: must be of Filipino ancestry, GPA of 3.5 or higher.  Amt. - $1,000.  Transcripts, letters of recommendation. For more information/application, to any of these scholarships, come to GRAC. - N. Okinaka

SPRING SEMESTER E-SCHOOL REGISTRATION

Registration has opened for Spring 2009 courses for E-School, the online high school credit source sponsored by the DOE.  Since you access your teacher and classmates only online, you need to be a very motivated student to sign up for such courses as: Writing Workshop, Journalistic Writing, Trigonometry, Ethnic Studies and  Career and Life Planning.  Last day to register is January 15, but courses fill up very quickly.  For more information, please see Mrs. Kobayashi in the Library. - G. COLLEGE & CAREER FAIR

All students who have paid for their bus fair, & signed up to go to the College & Career Fair !!  You are to report to your Pd. 2 - class to check in and then proceed to the upper student parking lot by the Cafeteria. The bus will be leaving promptly at 9:45am.  Any questions or concerns, come to GRAC.  - N. Okinaka

2ND ANNUAL SANTA'S WORKSHOP:

Students, please donate new or like-new items to E-103 for our 2nd Annual Santa's Workshop.  All items will be purchased by elementary school students and the money raised will be donated to Hawaii's Ronald McDonald House.  All items must be brought to E-103 by Weds., Dec. 3rd.  All classes and service clubs, please encouraged participation in this school-wide service project.   - D. VARSITY BASEBALL SIGN UP

Junior and Senior men wishing to be part of this year's baseball team are asked to sign up in E - 102 during lunch recess on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.  This will be your only opportunity to do so.  Reminder to all returning varsity members:  Platinum card monies and unsold cards are also due to me on Wednesday. - G.
