GENERAL

CLASS OF 2010 AFTER-SCHOOL CONCESSION

Support the class of 2010 at the after-school concession in E103 for the month of October!  Daily specials include:  McDonald's, Domino's, and Taco Bell. - P. Yanagisawa

JINGLE BELL ROCK:

Winter Ball 2008 will be held on Sunday, December 21 from 6:30 - 10:00 pm in the WHS Gym.  Permission forms will be available outside E-103 from Nov. 5 - 7, 2008 for 25 cents.  Bids will go on sale beginning Nov. 12 and will end on Nov. 19.  Cost is $7 for WHS students and $10 for guests.   - D. ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION 2009 MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

Judging is based upon scholarship, leadership and financial need.  Seniors interested in pursuing a four-year degree at any accredited US college or university may apply.  Applications can be downloaded at www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm.  Completed applications must be received at the Hilo Elks Lodge ON or BEFORE January 9, 2009. - T. CALIFORNIA-HAWAII ELKS ASSOCIATION VOCATIONAL GRANT

Three $1,000 scholarships are available to seniors planning to pursue training in a vocational/technical program culminating in a terminal associate degree, diploma or certificate.  Applications can be downloaded at www.chea-elks.org/vocationalgrant.html.  Completed applications must be received at the Hilo Elks Lodge for endorsement. - T. TOYOTA COMMUNITY SCHOLARS

This scholarship opportunity is available to Seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Other criteria includes academic achievement, leadership and community service.  Applications are available in GRAC and are due to Mrs. Sakai-Kawada by FRIDAY, November 14th.   - T. Kawada

HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS:

Show your Halloween spirit by dressing up and participating in the costume contest and fashion show during lunch recess on Friday.  The categories are:  Funny (Wacky); Scary (Chicken Skin); Best Overall.  Cross-dressing on this day is not permitted.   Fun foods eating contests will also be held during lunch recess.  No sign up necessary.  One activity per person. - D. PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST:

Interested students are invited to pick up a mini pumpkin (limited supply) today in E-103.  The pumpkin should be decorated and returned tomorrow morning before school begins.  . - D. Tanabe

VARIETY SHOW TALENT ACTS

If you missed the meeting on Monday and still want to try out for the 2009 Variety Show, please stop by Miss Ellsworth's room in C-204 before school or at first recess any time this week to pick up rules and applications forms. - M. Ellsworth

HAUNTED HOUSE ON CAMPUS

The WHS Acting class has created a spooky haunted house in Room M-102.  It will be open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week during lunch recess only.  Admission is only one canned or dry food item for our food drive.  So bring a donation to the food drive to get into the haunted house and let us scare your socks off! - M. CLASS OF 2009 - CAP & GOWN ORDERING

Don't forget: cap and gown ordering will be on November 12 during period 6.  Be sure that you are present to take your measurements for YOUR cap and gown (you may not use last year's gown as this year's one is different).  Bring your order form and payment in FULL on that day only.  Early orders and payments will not be accepted!  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Sakai-Kawada in GRAC.  Remember: NO CAP & GOWN, NO WALKING THE LINE!!! - K. There's less than a week left to enter the 2009 Hawaiian Telcom Yellow Pages Keiki Art Contest.  If interested, entries must be postmarked by Nov. 3rd.  Come to E-103 for rules and an entry form. - D. Tanabe

 

SPORTS

TO ALL WRESTLERS:

All returning wrestlers and all those who signed up  are expected to attend conditioning sessions.  Conditioning starts at 4:00 and ends at 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.  Please meet at the cafeteria daily.  Don't be late!  Bring a positive attitude, running shoes, and extra shirts. - Y.
