GENERAL

CLASS OF 2010 AFTER-SCHOOL CONCESSION

Support the class of 2010 at the after-school concession in E103 for the month of October!  Daily specials include:  McDonald's, Domino's, and Taco Bell. - P. Yanagisawa

CLASS OF 2009 CAP AND GOWN ORDER PACKETS

ATTENTION ALL SENIORS!!!  It's time to order your cap and gown for Commencement in June!  Pick-up your order packets from Mrs. Sakai-Kawada's room in GRAC on Tuesday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 22 during morning recesses ONLY.  You must pick-up your own packet and sign for it - you may not pick-up for someone else or have anyone else pick-up for you!  If you do not pick up a packet, you won't be able to order a cap or gown.  Remember:  if you do not have a cap and gown, you CANNOT walk the line at Commencement! - K. UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT MANOA - COLLEGE OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM (COP)

College Opportunities Progam (COP) provides an alternative pathway for seniors who want to attend UH Manoa, but do not meet the minimum requirements for admission.  Participants attend an intensive, 5 week summer academic and residential program focused on preparing individuals for a successful freshman year at UH Manoa.  There is no cost to participate in the 5 week summer program as room, board, books and instructional expenses are covered by COP.  Participants who successfully complete the summer program requirements are admitted to UH Manoa and advance to COP's First-Year Academic Program in the Fall.  There are eligibility and application requirements for COP, such as being economically disadvantaged.   Application deadline is December 5, 2008 (Priority), January 27, 2009 (final).  If you are interested, please see Mrs. Sakai-Kawada (GRAC) or Mrs. Tagawa (P5) for more information and the application.  Thank you!     - H. COLLEGE PRESENTATIONS

LEWIS & CLARKE -  A representative from Lewis & Clarke will be doing a  presentation in GRAC on Friday, October 24th, pd. 6 at 12:00pm. Lewis & Clarke is located in Portalnd, Oregon and is a private 4 yr. liberal arts college.

MOUNT ST. MARY'S COLLEGE  - Will be doing a presentation in GRAC on Friday, October 24, at 10:30am. Mount St. Mary's is a private  4 - yr. liberal arts college, located 2 mi. from Los Angeles, California.  If interested in any of these presentations, come to GRAC for a pass. - N. Okinaka

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION 2009 MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

Judging is based upon scholarship, leadership and financial need.  Seniors interested in pursuing a four-year degree at any accredited US college or university may apply.  Applications can be downloaded at www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm.  Completed applications must be received at the Hilo Elks Lodge ON or BEFORE January 9, 2009. - T. CALIFORNIA-HAWAII ELKS ASSOCIATION VOCATIONAL GRANT

Three $1,000 scholarships are available to seniors planning to pursue training in a vocational/technical program culminating in a terminal associate degree, diploma or certificate.  Applications can be downloaded at www.chea-elks.org/vocationalgrant.html.  Completed applications must be received at the Hilo Elks Lodge for endorsement. - T. TOYOTA COMMUNITY SCHOLARS

This scholarship opportunity is available to Seniors with a minimun GPA of 3.0.  Other criteria includes academic achievement, leadership and community service.  Applications are available in GRAC and are due to Mrs. Sakai-Kawada by FRIDAY, November 14th.   - T. Kawada

 

SPORTS

RETURNING VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM MEMBERS

All returning Varsity Baseball Team members are required to attend a meeting in E-102 on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 12:25 pm.  If you plan to wear the team uniform this year, you'd better not be absent and you'd better not be late!!!! - G. Mau

SENIORS INTERESTED IN THIS YEARS CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

All senior interested in participating in this years Christmas program, please come to an informational meeting on Wednesday, October 22 in Q204 during lunch recess.  If you are interested but unable to attend please see Nyssa Aoki or Mrs. Higa. - L. Higa

KIDS VOTE:  

 ALL SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS ARE SCHEDULED TO TAKE THEIR CLASSES TO EITHER THE COMPUTER LAB OR LIBRARY STARTING OCTOBER 21-30. SCHEDULES HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED.  STUDENT PASSWORDS WILL BE DELIVERED THE DAY BEFORE YOU ARE SCHEDULED TO VOTE.  THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELP! - Y. Bright-Poai
