GENERAL

YEARBOOK DISTRIBUTION

Yearbook Distribution will take place from May 26-29, 2009.  For that reason, it is important that you clear all obligations prior to May 15, 2009.  Distribution will take place in D-201 during lunch recess only.  All students should check the list on the door of D-201 in order to see if they purchased a yearbook.  If your name is listed, you will only need to bring a valid picture ID in order to pick up your book.  Distribution days are as follows:

 

Tuesday, May 26, 2009- Seniors

Wednesday, May 27, 2009- Juniors

Thursday, May 28, 2009- Sophomores and Freshmen

Friday, May 29, 2009- All grades

 

If you did not purchase a yearbook, they will be available for purchase on May 29, 2009 during lunch recess in D-201.  You must bring $50.00 cash in order to purchase it at that time. - K. Castillo

UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT HILO - ORIENTATION PRESENTATION

Attention  Seniors !!  If you have been accepted to UHHilo in the Fall, come to GRAC to sign up for the Orientation Presentation.

The presentation will answer some frequently asked questions as how to register ? How do I find out my grades ? Meeting w/ the Professors, how to establish a UH Portal ? Housing ?  And more. The presentation will be on Wednesday, May 20th. at 9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.  in the WHS - Cafe. Any questions or concerns, come to GRAC. Port. 12.   - N. Okinaka

AFTER-SCHOOL CONCESSION

Hungry??  Check out the after-school concession starting May 18-29 in E103.  Daily specials include:  double-cheeseburger, pizza,, McChicken sandwiches, soft tacos, and hot dogs.   - P. Yanagisawa

TENNIS COURTS OPEN

Effective immediately, the Waiakea High School tennis courts will be open to all students on Tuesdays and Thursdays for free play.  Courts will open at 4 o'clock and close at 6 pm.  Students need to supply their own tennis racquet and balls.  Also, non-marking tennis shoes are required. - J. Higa

SENIOR DIPLOMAS

Seniors:  Come to E-103 during lunch recess during SENIOR WEEK to check on how you want your name printed on your diploma.  See Olivia or Mrs. Sakai-Kawada for more information. - T. Kawada

NAVY PRESENTATION

Imagine a college campus that floats and flies ? In the Navy, you can earn college credits on base.  Even at sea. Navy ships have accredited instructors on board who teach college-level course work. Travel coast to coast.  Interested ?  If you are, Petty Officer  Aaron Tolintino from the Navy will be doing a presentation in GRAC on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 9:30am. The Navy could be an option after graduation. Come to GRAC to sign up for a pass if interested.   - N. Okinaka

CALLING ALL WARRIORS:

Everyone in our Warrior ohana (students, faculty & staff) are encouraged to participate in Waiakea High School's Memorial Day Lei effort.  Please donate ti leaves or already made lei to your respective grade level.  We need everyone's support to hit the statewide goal of 50,000 lei. - D. Tanabe

THIS IS THE LAST SATURDAY FOR MURAL PAINTING AT THE ZOO!

Ms. Kelly's students, Saturday from 11 to 4 at the Panaewa Zoo is the last day for Mural painting. If you need a form come to M 103, otherwise meet at the main Zoo entrance at 11am. Wear sunscreen and clothes you dont mind getting paint on. - A. Kelly

SENIORS:  MEMORIAL DAY LEIS

Seniors, please help out your class by bringing ti leaf or making ti leaf leis for Memorial Day.  The deadline for all leis is coming up soon.  Please bring ti leaf and/or leis to Q202 or see Alyssa Sato for details regarding lei making sessions. - C. Ray

SENIORS - MONDAY IS "BACK IN THE DAY" DAY

Kick off Senior Week by going back to hanabata days.  Dress up in elementary school attire & re-live the days of jump rope and hopscotch.  Sign up in GRAC (P-12) to participate in the Waiakeawaena Menehunes vs. Waiakea Elementary Royals Tug-of-War contest to be held in the Quad during lunch recess on Monday.  Students who attended other elementary schools can also sign up. SENIOR AWARD RECIPIENTS:

Seniors who will be receiving an award/scholarship at the Senior Awards Night on Weds., please dress appropriately, Sunday's best or aloha attire...no shorts, t-shirts, or puka jeans.  If you are unable to attend, please see Mrs. Tagawa or Mrs. Tanabe as soon as possible.   - D. Tanabe

SOPHOMORE CLASS MEMORIAL DAY LEI MAKING:

All sophomores are encouraged to attend Memorial Day lei making, every day after school beginning on Monday in E-103.  These are the last three days to reach our goal.  If you cannot attend, please bring in green ti leaves.  Go Pandas! - D. Tanabe

SENIOR CLASS MEMORIAL DAY LEIS

Those of you who have been storing Memorial Day ti leaf leis for the senior class, please bring them to school next Wednesday, May 20, so that the leis can defrost before Thursday's packing.  Please take them to Q201.  If you had boxes with them, please bring the boxes, too, so we can use them to pack all the leis on Thursday.   - C. <3 SENIOR WEEK <3

Hey Seniors!  Don't forget!  Next week is SHARK WEEK!  Show your class spirit and participate in all the week's festivities.

MONDAY we'll kick off the week with "Back-In-The-Day" day!  Dress up in your old school attire and come to the Quad for Tug-o-War & other small kid activities.

TUESDAY is "Tourist Tuesday"!  Come dressed as a tourist & bring your favorite Senior class advisor to the Quad at lunch to participate in the Faculty Dress-Up competition.

WEDNESDAY is "Comic Book Day". Dress up in character & participate in the obstacle courses.

THURSDAY is "Shark Pride Day".  Wear your Shark Shirt & come to the Quad with your Senior Spirit for a picnic & live entertainment by Hilo Roots.

FRIDAY is "Future Friday".  Dress up as you see yourself 10 years from now & bring memorabilia to put in our time capsule!

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (GR 11-12) MEMBERS:

There will be a meeting on Friday, May 15, during lunch recess in Rm R-204.  Please be prompt.  Meeting will start at 11:35.  Agenda:  Election of new officers (09-10) , selection of committee members and summer schedule pick assistance. - J. Nekoba

Informational meeting sponsored by the Hawai`i Teacher Standards Board.  Learn about the National Board Certification.  The meeting for the  Big Island (Hilo) will be from 3:30 - 4:30 pm at the District Office Annex, Room 1 on Thursday, May 28, 2009. - M. Respicio
