GENERAL

SENIOR PHONEBOOK DRIVE

To all Seniors-

Please support your class and donate your phonebooks to the Senior Phonebook Drive! Starting on April 6th, 2009, please drop off your phonebooks at Mr. Mau's room E-102 every Monday and Wednesday before school and during morning recess. Those who donate 10 phonebooks will receive 1 point towards a commencement ticket. - K. Sato

FOOD DRIVE CHALLENGE:

The faculty and staff challenges all students to donate non-perishable items and/or cash to the HI Island Food Bank. The staff vs. student competition will begin immediately and end on April 22. All donations should be brought to E-103. Weekly updates will be announced. The food drive is an opportunity for the Waiakea HS family to pull together and help one another in our community. Statewide, the HI Food Bank provides food for more than 131,000 individuals each year, including 33,000 children. Please give generously. - D. Tanabe

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

HAWAII ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS - Amt. $1,000.00 for pursuing a Baccalaureate degree, $750.00 for an Associates degree. Candidates must be pursuing a career in accounting and plan to enroll full-time. Deadline: April 21, 2009.

FARM CREDIT SERVICES OF HAWAII - Amt. $1,000.00. Candidates must provide documentation to show their intent to further their education in an agricultural related field. Deadline: April 30, 2009.

KOHALA PUERTO RICAN SOCIAL CLUB - Applicant must be of Puerto Rican ancestry. Parents must be paid-up members of the Kohala Puerto Rican Social Club. Deadline: April 30, 2009.

JUSTICE BEN MENOR SCHOLARSHIP - Scholarships will be awarded to incoming UHManoa undergraduates of Filipino ancestry. Essay, school/community involvement, academic achievment, financial need. Amt. $1000.00. Deadline: April 30, 2009.

CATRALA - HAWAII SCHOLARSHIP - Applicant must be pursuing a higher education in Travel Industry Managment or other Business-related course of study at any accredited 4-yr.college or university. Amt. - $2,000. Deadline: May 1, 2009. For more information/application on any of these scholarships, come to GRAC. - N. Okinaka

MAY DAY ENTERTAINMENT

If anyone is interested in performing for this year's May Day Program, please see Ms. Kaleohano in C102 by Thursday, April 16, 2009. - K. Kaleohano

ASVAB TESTING

Just a reminder ! Thursday, April 16th, 2009 will be the last Armed Services Vocational Apititude Battery Test (ASVAB) for the school year. The test will begin promptly at 8:15am. - 12:00pm in the Library. The testing will be administered during periods 1, 3, recess, & 4. The Library will be closed during the ASVAB Testing. Any questions/concerns, or to sign up for the ASVAB, come to GRAC. (port. 12). - N. Okinaka

SENIOR WEEK COMMITTEE MEETING

Seniors who want to help plan this year's SENIOR WEEK: there will be a meeting on Wednesday, in GRAC during morning recess. See Kayla K or Mrs. Sakai-Kawada for more details. - T. Kawada

We need pictures for our Senior slide show. Please drop pictures off at GRAC by April 30th. Label photos with your name if you want them returned to you. - T. Kawada

JUNIOR MAY DAY PERFORMERS

All Junior May Day participants meet in U203 tomorrow, 4/15 lunch recess for measurements. - Z. Igawa

CLASS RINGS

A few sophomores received their class rings yesterday. Mr. Goo of Balfour will be back at Waiakea on Wednesday, April 29 during lunch recess. If you'd like to order a class ring, please see Mrs. Kobayashi in the library. - G. Kobayashi

SENIORS

Need to earn points towards a Commencement ticket? Bring in 5 canned goods to GRAC by Wednesday, April 22nd. Bring in two pairs of used rubber sole athletic shoes to GRAC by Thursday, April 23rd. Bring in 10 phonebooks to E-102 (Mr. Mau's room). Each "bring in" = 1 point. Maximum points possible for each "bring in" = 1 point. See Mrs. Sakai-Kawada in GRAC for more details. - T. Kawada

9TH GRADE CLASS COUNCIL MEETING

SIERRA STUDENT COALITION

There will be a recycling pick up after school on Wednesday, April 15, at M103. Club members if you want to participate in the club activity you must attend! - A. Kelly
