SAT PREPARATION CLASS

College Connections Hawaii is offering free math and verbal SAT prep courses during Spring break/inter-session:  March 23-April 2 from 8:30-12:30 p.m. at the Waiakea High School library.  If interested, log on to their website:  www.collegeconnections.org or see Ms. Yanagisawa in P-4 for more info - P. CLASS OF 2011 STEAK FRY:

Please support the Class of 2011 by purchasing steak fry tickets for $10 each.  The fundraiser will take place on Sat., April 11 at our school cafeteria.  Pick up of frozen steak OR a steak plate  (8 oz. steak, rice, corn and cookie) will take place from 9:00-10:30 for frozen steak OR  11:00 - 1:00 for the steak plate.  Please support the pandas in this major fundraising activity.  Buy your ticket(s) from any sophomore, E-103 or the finance office. - D. CLASS OF 2011:

Don't forget to turn in your fundraising ticket and/or money to the finance office by this Friday, March 20.  If you forget, it will be considered as an obligation and you must pay for your tickets. - D. Tanabe

WARRIOR SPIRIT....CATCH IT!

Today is Luck-of-the-Irish Tuesday.  If you are wearing green, come to E-103 during lunch recess to claim your treat.  Tomorrow is White-Out Wednesday.  Wear all white and come to the quad during lunch recess for some fun games.   - D. Tanabe

SHOP FOR HIGHER EDUCATION:

Come on, Warriors,  we've moved up to 12th spot in the statewide Shop for Higher Education Scholarship Program.  Shop at any Sack 'N Save or Foodland stores and credit your points to Waiakea High School.  The more points we get, the more scholarships we receive.  The program ends on March 24. - D. CLASS COMPETITION!   

Make a difference, do your part, and recycle your old athletic shoes.  Although this is a statewide campaign, Waiakea High has decided to make it a class competition.  The class that brings in the most pairs of athletic shoes will be awarded $100, and the individual with the most shoes will be awarded a $25 gift card.  The worn-out athletic shoes are recycled by the Nike Reuse-a-Shoe Program and turned into athletic equipment, including tracks and playgrounds! Deadline to turn in shoes to E-103 is April 23.   Let the competition begin! - D. Tanabe

CONGRATULATIONS DECA STUDENTS!

The following students represented Waiakea High with Warrior Pride and brought home a total of 10 medals and 2 trophies.   Tyson Agbayani, Kaede Kanzawa, Dustin Morita, Travis Morita, and  Mei Yi Xie performed well and met standards in Business Services and Retail Merchandising.  Brett Hosaka received a medallion for Marketing Management; Jared Kushi received 2 medallions and a finalist medal in Retail Merchandising; Kellie Ancheta received a medallion, finalist medal, 1st place medal for written exam and 2nd place trophy (overall) in Retail Merchandising; and Ariel Ray received 2 medallions, a finalist medal and 1st place trophy (overall) in Business Services Marketing.  Kellie and Ariel will be part of the delegation representing Hawaii in the International Career Development Conference to be held from April 28-May 3 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, CA.  Congratulations to ALL DECA STUDENTS!!!! - S. FANS WITH CANS

Hui Hawaii 'o Waiakea is sponsoring a Food Drive for the Hawaii Food Basket.  Donations are being accepted in C-102 from now till Friday.  We will also be holding a concert in the Quad on Friday during lunch recess.  Donations will be accepted at that time also.  Mahalo! - K. Kaleohano

WAIAKEA HIGH SCHOOL SKILLSUSA WINNERS

Congratulations to the following students that competed in this year's Hawaii State SkillsUSA Conference and Competitions on Oahu, March 12 - 13, 2009:  Aaron Sewake - 1st Place in Cabinet Making, Kaimi Scott - 3rd Place in Cabinet Making, Joshua Koch - 3rd Place in Carpentry, Cameron Yasukawa - 1st Place in Related Technical Math, Juanchen Li - 2nd Place in Related Technical Math,  Anthony Daub - Contestant in Auto Service, Rhys Grace - Contestant in Job Interview, Noah Bath - Contestant in Internet Working, Gerry Rivera - Contestant in Related Technical Math.  First Place winners - Aaron Sewake and Cameron Yasukawa may represent Hawaii in their respective competitions at the National SkillsUSA Conference and Competitions in Kansas City in June. - D. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP

HARRIET BOUSLOG LABOR SCHOLARSHIP  - Amt. - $1,000 per semester and is renewable for up to eight semesters. This scholarship is available to high school seniors who will attend a University of HI campus in a bachelor's degree program and are children or grandchildren of  active or retired members of the ILWU (International Longshore & Warehouse Union)  Local 142.  Deadline :  May 1, 2009.
