GENERAL

2009 CITIZENSHIP AWARD

SENIORS!!!  We need to select ONE senior who best represents Waiakea High School's Vision of a Public School Graduate for the 2009 Citizenship Award.  Interested seniors, come to GRAC for an application form and more information.  Completed applications and letters of reference are due to Mrs. Sakai-Kawada on Monday, March 16, 2009. - T. SAT PREPARATION CLASS

College Connections Hawaii is offering free math and verbal SAT prep courses during Spring break/inter-session:  March 23-April 2 from 8:30-12:30 p.m. at the Waiakea High School library.  If interested, log on to their website:  www.collegeconnections.org or see Ms. Yanagisawa in P-4 for more info - P. MANDATORY DRIVER ED MEETING FOR MARCH SESSION STUDENTS

There will be a mandatory Driver Ed meeting for parent and student on Thursday, March 12, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Waiakea High Library. Student and at least 1 parent must attend this meeting in order to take the driver ed. class. - W. Yamauchi

SENIOR PROM SEATING AND PICTURE TAKING

Sign ups for seating and picture taking will be on Monday, March 9th thru Wednesday, March 11th during lunch recess in front of E-103.  Senior prom goers need to sign up for themselves and their guest.  Non-senior guests will not be allowed to sign up.  Bring your bids with you....NO BIDS, NO SEATING OR PICTURE TAKING SIGN UP.  Prom goers who do not sign up during this time will be assigned seats & picture taking times.  NO CHANGES will be allowed.  - T. SHOP FOR HIGHER EDUCATION:

We are still in fourteenth place, statewide, in the annual Sack 'N Save Shop for Higher Education campaign.  When you shop at Foodland or Sack 'N Save, designate your points to Waiakea High School.  The more points we earn, the more scholarships we receive.  The campaign ends on March 24. - D. COMMENCEMENT SONG LEADERS

Applications for Commencement Song Leader(s) are available in GRAC through Friday, 3/13.   Song leaders must be a graduating senior participating in Commencement.  Song leaders must also be available to attend ALL senior song practices.  Completed applications are due to Mrs. Sakai-Kawada by Friday, 3/13.  Auditions will be held the week of March 16th; specifics will be announced to all applicants.  See Kellie A. or Mrs. Sakai-Kawada for more information.    - T. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP

BIG ISLAND ROAD RUNNERS  -  Applicant must be a member of a running team, preferably a distance runner. GPA of at least 2.5.  Amt. - $1,000.00 to one female and one male applicant.  Should you need additional info. go to : http://www.bigislandroadrunners.org. AUDITIONS FOR EMCEE FOR 2009 COMMENCEMENT

If anyone interested in auditioning for this year's commencement program, please pick up an application packet from Mrs. Sakai-Kawada in P-12 as soon as possible.  Auditions will be held Monday, March 16 at 2:45 p.m. in Q-202.  If you have any questions, please see senior Kayla Kosaki, Mrs. Sakai-Kawada, or Mrs. Ray. - C. WHAT'S IT LIKE IN THE U.S. NAVY?

If you are interested in learning from a 2008 graduate what it's like to be in the United States Navy, please see Miss Ellsworth in C-204 any recess to sign up for a presentation.  Shelton Talaro, who graduated last year, is willing to do a presentation to give you his perspective on Navy life. - M. CLASS OF 2011 STEAK FRY:

Please support the Class of 2011 by purchasing steak fry tickets for $10 each.  The fund-raiser will take place on Sat., April 11 at our school cafeteria.  Pick up of frozen steak OR a steak plate  (8 oz. steak, rice, corn and cookie) will take place from 9:00-10:30 for frozen steak OR  11:00 - 1:00 for the steak plate.  Please support the pandas in this major fund-raising activity.  Buy your ticket(s) from any sophomore, E-103 or the finance office. - D. There will be a Class of 2011 council meeting on Thursday, March 12 during lunch recess in E-103.  All English class reps and chairpersons, please attend.  Wear your panda shirt. - D. Tanabe
