SR. WEEK T-SHIRTS

FIRE EXPLORER PROGRAM

All interested  9th - 12th grade boys & girls !!  The Fire Explorer Program will allow you to experience what it takes to fill the boots of a Hawaii Fire Fighter/EMT.  If you would like to learn team work, leadership and independence, while having fun and earning a CPR/First Aid certification, then don't miss this informational presentation. 2009 YEARBOOK ORDERS

From Wednesday, February 25, 2009- Friday, February 27, 2009, you can place an order for a 2009 WHS Yearbook.  This will be your last chance to order a standard yearbook.  Yearbooks are $50.00 and you can pay with either a check written to WHS or cash.  Yearbooks are being sold during lunch recess only in D-201.  If you are unsure of whether or not you purchased a yearbook, come by D-201during recess time only and check if your name is listed on the door.   - K. SHOP FOR HIGHER EDUCATION;

Each time you shop with your Maika'i Card at any Foodland or Sack N Save, you'll earn points for you and our school.  The more points we earn, the more scholarships we receive.  Help our school earn scholarships by visiting any Foodland or Sack N Save from now until March 24.    - D. Tanabe

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

PUERTO RICAN HERITAGE SOCIETY OF HAWAII  -  Amt. - $500. GPA of 3.5 or higher. Financial need. Personal interview may be required of finalists. Deadline: April 1, 2009.

HI ISLAND UNITED HONGWANJI BUDDHIST WOMEN'S ASSOC.  -   Amt. - $750. Any accredited college, university, or commercial college is acceptable. Applicant must be involved in Dharma School, Jr. YBA,& other Hongwanji related organizations.  Deadline: April 15, 2009.

HILO BUDDHIST FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY  -   Amt. $750. Applicant and/or parent/guardian must be a member of good standing of the Honpa Hongwanji . Applicant must have participated in church-related activities. Deadline:  April 17, 2009.  For more infor./application on any of these applications, come to GRAC. - N. Okinaka

AFTERSCHOOL CONCESSION

Bradda Pops, hot dogs, chips, sweet treats, and drinks are available at the afterschool concession in E-103.  Tomorrow's special is hamburger, double cheeseburger, and McChicken sandwiches.  Friday's special is chili bowl from Don's Grill.  - K. Uyeda

KI ALI'I PAUAHI FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are for undergraduate & graduate degree-seeking, full time students. The scholarships are merit or need-based, preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry. Apply on-line now thru April 1st. All documents must be postmarked by April 1st.  Students can go to  www.pauahi.org/scholarships. for various scholarships online. - N. Okinaka

JR. BALL BIDS

Jr. Ball bids will be sold Feb. 23- March 4 (except 2/27) outside of E-103 during lunch recess. Cost for juniors is $32 and guests is $35. All obligations must be cleared in order to purchase bids. - Z. Igawa

LIONS QUEST

I have 7 students who still need to placed with a teacher to "work" for them during Pd. 4  on 6 students on Monday and one student on Tuesday.  The student would be helping you in your classroom by doing things such as correct papers, clean certain areas, file papers, or any other clerical , housekeeping, and production type jobs you may have for them to do.  There are 5 girls and 2 boys.  If you need help please help me out and "hire "one of them for your classroom.  Please contact me through lotus notes or call and leave a message on my phone.  Hope to hear from someone soon. JUNIOR COUNTRY FAIR

The class of 2010 will be hosting the Junior Country Fair on Sat., March 7, 2009 from 9 am- 1-pm at the Waiakea High School Cafeteria.  Blane's bentos for $6 will also be sold.  If interested in purchasing one, pleasee see Ms. Yanagisawa in P4. - P. Yanagisawa

 

 

YOKOSO JAPAN TRIP!

I cannot guarantee you cherry blossoms in the spring, but I can guarantee that you will have a wonderful time in Japan!  Students, if you are interested in the history and culture of  Japan, pick up a brochure and a cost worksheet from Mrs. Naungayan in R205.  We have decided to open 30 positions for this March 2010 trip, but we may extend the number to 36 (no more!) if there is a need.  Teachers and other Adults:  If you are interested, please see me or send me a Lotus message.  Students will have 2 weeks to sign up.  If positions are open, adults may sign up for the remaining positions.  Trip venues include:  Tokyo (Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace Plaza, National Museum, Cooking lesson); Hakone (Mt. Fuji, cruise on Lake Ashi, Onshi Hakone Park); Kyoto (Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, Nijo Castle, Heian Shrine).  Awesome travel opportunity! All accommodations are 3 and 4 star hotels.   - S. 2009 CITIZENSHIP AWARD

SENIORS!!!  We need to select ONE senior who best represents Waiakea High School's Vision of a Public School Graduate for the 2009 Citizenship Award.  Interested seniors, come to GRAC for an application form and more information.  Completed applications and letters of reference are due to Mrs. Sakai-Kawada on Monday, March 16, 2009. - T. SENIOR CLASS BLOOD DRIVE:

Our annual blood drive will be held on Friday, March 20th in our library.  Please get permission forms from Mrs. Poai in U202 or from any Blood Drive Committee Member. Please give the gift of life! - Y. Bright-Poai

UH MANOA - ACCEPTED STUDENTS PRESENTATION

Attention to all seniors who have been admitted to the University of Hawaii at Manoa, there will be a presentation on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 9:45am in the Library. If you have been admitted into UHManoa, come to GRAC for a pass. The presentation will enclude information on the enrollment process, the New Student Orientation program, Housing, Placement Exams, and important dates to remember.  Any questions, come to GRAC. - N.
