SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS

Hawaii Community Foundation Scholarships are available on-line at www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org.  Application deadline is March 2, 2009.    - T. Kawada

JOURNEY THROUGH THE UNIVERSE

This year's Journey Through the Universe Week will be February 9-13.  There will be activities for children and adults at Borders on Monday, Feb 9 from 5 PM - 7 PM (no ticket required).  Also, a limited number of free tickets are available for Family Science Day (Sunday, Feb 8  from 9 AM - 9 PM) and Family Science Night (Wednesday, Feb 11 from 4 PM - 8 PM).  Please see Mrs. Martin in E-201during non-class time if you are interested in tickets for these events. - L. OXFORD ADVANCED STUDIES PROGRAM

Are you interested in spending your 2009 summer at Brasenose College in Oxford?  Interested students who have completed 10th grade and have reached the age of 16 by the beginning of the course may apply.  Come to GRAC for more information. - T. Kawada

SENIOR PROM

Our 2009 Senior Prom entitled SIMPLY FOREVER will be held on Friday, April 10 at the UH-Hilo Sodexho Dining Room.  Permission forms will be available on February 11, 12 & 13 during lunch recess in front of  E-103.  Permission forms are 25 cents each.  Bids will be sold from Wednesday, February 18 through Friday, February 27th during lunch recess in front of E-103.  Bids are $25 for seniors and $30 for guests.  Both cafeteria and library obligations MUST be cleared in order to purchase a bid.  See Cindy, Lindsey M. or Kyla for more information. - T. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP

Hawaii Association for Career and Technical Education (HACTE) Scholarship is available for Seniors who will be registered as a full-time student in an Associate of Science degree or Certificate of Achievement program in a career and technical education major at any of the University of Hawaii's community colleges or other accredited post-secondary two year institutions.  Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, a statement of career plans, two letters of recommendation, official transcript and a completed and signed application.  Come to GRAC for more information or an application form.  Postmark deadline is Friday, March 20, 2009. - T. CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF ARTS PRE-COLLEGE SUMMER PROGRAM

Pre-College is open to students who have completed their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school by the summer of 2009.  Classes are held on the California College of the Arts Oakland campus from June 29th through July 24th.  Applications and infomation available at www.cca.edu/precollege or in GRAC  Priority deadline is March 20th. - T. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

OUTRIGGER DUKE KAHANAMOKU SCHOLARSHIP  -  Applicant must demonstrate financial need. Participate competitively as an amateur in sports of canoeing, surfing, kayaking, swimming, water polo or vollyball and have a record of accomplishments and intend to compete in college. Min. cum. G.P.A. of 3.0. Deadline: April 1, 2009.

HAWAII COUNTY RONALD REAGAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND  -    Applicant must write an essay on the subject chosen for the year. Amt. between $500 and $1,500. Deadline: April 15th, 2009. If interested in any of these scholarships, come to GRAC. - N. Okinaka

CALLING ALL HUNGRY WARRIORS!

The afterschool concession has moved to E-103 beginning today thru the month of February.  Satisfy your hunger and thirst with yummy treats and drinks.  Daily specials include burgers, soft tacos, hot dogs, chili bowls, saimin, chips, cookies, dunkaroos, candy, and drinks.  Please help the Class of 2012 with their fundraising efforts.  Thank you! - K. FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE BANQUET:

Bids are now being sold outside of E-103 during lunch recess for the 2009 Freshman-Sophomore Banquet, "Under the Sea".  Cost for freshmen and sophomores is $25, high school guests is $27.  One guest per freshman/sophomore.  All WHS attendees must have paid their dues and cleared all obligations before purchasing a bid.  Last day for bid sales is this Thursday, Feb. 5.  No exceptions!  Forms are available in E-103.   - D. VALENTINE COOKIE SALE

The WHS Cooking Club is selling Valentine Cookies for $2.00. Pre-Sale begins Monday, 2/2 to Thursday, 2/5 fronting E-103 during recess. - P. Gutzeit

WEDNESDAY SOUND CREW MEETING

There will be a quick Sound Crew meeting Wednesday, February 4 during lunch in R-102.  Current Sound Crew members: Please bring a recruit. - A. Roberts

CLASS RINGS

Would you like to wear a Waiakea High School class ring?  Sophomores will have their first chance to order a class ring for delivery in May next Wednesday, February 11, during lunch recess.  Ring committee members will be visiting sophomore English classes next Monday and Tuesday.   Ring catalogs are also available from the library.  To order, you will need a $60.00 deposit fee in cash or via a check made out to the Balfour Company.  Because gold rings may be ordered, the prices range from $199 to $555.  Juniors and Seniors may also order class rings. - G. SENIOR RING ORDERS

Senior rings will be distributed on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11th during morning recess in GRAC.  Seniors who ordered rings should bring the balance due on that day.  Questions?  See Mrs. Sakai-Kawada in GRAC. - T. Kawada

YOKOSO (WELCOME) JAPAN!

The A&C academy announces its most exciting trip: 10 days in Japan!  Venues include: Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Hakone-Mt. Fujii, and Tokyo.  Trips dates are from March 9-18, 2010.  Only 30 positions on this tour!  Students have priority, but adults may join if there are unfilled positions.  NETC has an easy-payment plan!  See Mrs. Naungayan in R205 for price worksheet and more info. parent meeting on February 18th from 6-8 p.m. in the library. - S. MANDATORY JUNIOR VARIETY SHOW PRACTICE ON FRIDAY!

ATTENTION JUNIOR CLASS ACT VARIETY SHOW PARTICIPANTS:  FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH, MANDATORY PRACTICE IN R205 FROM 10 TO 3.  MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON TIME.  ATTENDANCE WILL BE BY SIGN-IN WITH TIME ARRIVED. - S. Naungayan

VARIETY SHOW FINALE PRACTICES

Anyone involved in Variety Show is welcome to dance in the Finale Act of the Variety Show.  Come to as many of the upcoming paractices as you can to learn the dance.  It's fun because there's no pressure since the Finale is NOT part of the competition!  Today, there's practice this evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in M-102.  On Thursday, practice is right after school from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in M-102. On Friday, there are TWO practice sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. also in M-102.  Come enjoy the fun! - M. Ellsworth
