BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM  -  Students currently in grades 9 - 12 and have a min. cum. G.P.A. of 2.5, demonstrate commitment to   & involvement in volunteer community service or work experience may apply for the scholarship. 1,000 scholarships of $1,500.00 each will be awarded. Recent graduate Chelsea Takahashi who is attending Chapman University in Orange County, California will be doing a presentation on Wednesday, January 28th at 9:45am in GRAC. For those of you who missed talking w/ her, this is your chance to find out about Chapman. Come and "chat" w/ Chelsea to find out more about Chapman. Come to GRAC if interested to get a pass.

UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE  PRESENTATION  -   A representative from UTI will be doing a presentation on February, 16th & 17th in Auto Shop.  UTI offers Automotive, Auto/NASCAR, Diesel, Collision Repair, motocycle, Marine Mechanics programs. They also have financial aid. Make good money, liking what you do. Come to GRAC for a pass if interested. - N. Okinaka


This year's Journey Through the Universe Week will be February 9-13.  There will be activities for children and adults at Borders on Monday, Feb 9 from 5 PM - 7 PM (no ticket required).  Also, a limited number of free tickets are available for Family Science Day (Sunday, Feb 8  from 9 AM - 9 PM) and Family Science Night (Wednesday, Feb 11 from 4 PM - 8 PM).  Please see Mrs. Martin in E-201during non-class time if you are interested in tickets for these events. - L. OUTRIGGER DUKE KAHANAMOKU SCHOLARSHIP  -  Applicant must demonstrate financial need. Participate competitively as an amateur in sports of canoeing, surfing, kayaking, swimming, water polo or vollyball and have a record of accomplishments and intend to compete in college. Min. cum. G.P.A. of 3.0. Deadline: April 1, 2009.

HAWAII COUNTY RONALD REAGAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND  -    Applicant must write an essay on the subject chosen for the year. Amt. between $500 and $1,500. Deadline: April 15th, 2009. If interested in any of these scholarships, come to GRAC. - N. Okinaka


All students that signed up for the Global Studies afterschool class (and those interested) should come to an important planning meeting on Tuesday, 2/3/09, during Lunch recess in C-201. Please come to be a part of the decisions made for meeting days/hours as well as expectations for 1/2 credit towards Social Studies requirements for graduation. - L. Kamalani


The afterschool concession has moved to E-103 beginning today thru the month of February.  Satisfy your hunger and thirst with yummy treats and drinks.  Daily specials include burgers, soft tacos, hot dogs, chili bowls, saimin, chips, cookies, dunkaroos, candy, and drinks.  Please help the Class of 2012 with their fundraising efforts.  Thank you! - K. We will have a meeting to debreif regarding our visitors from Japan and how we could improve activities with them if they return in two years.  Also if we want to try to go to Japan to visit them, when would be a good time of the year.?  Come with suggestions, ideas and any other thoughts.  We will start at  lunch recess on Feb. 4.  Please be prompt.   - L. Your 2008 W-2 will be available on Friday, January 30, 2009.   Please see me or Mrs. Abraham.  Employees who have worked in more than one position or have transferred from another state agency will receive only one statement which includes all earnings for the year.  Protect your statement from being lost or misplaced.  The cost for a duplicate is $10.00 and expect a two week wait or more for the replacement.  Payment by personal check will require more time to process because receipt of funds must be verified.  - J. Resource for Employee Assistance & Counseling Help (REACH) Program.  The REACH program provides confidential, Short-term professional counseling services to employees who may be experiencing personal problems affecting their job performance.  All State government employees (except student hires) of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches on all islands are eligible for REACH services. - M.
