GENERAL

BLOOD DRIVE:   

Our annual blood drive will take place on Thursday, January 24 in our library.  Permission forms are required for students who are 17 years old.  Forms may be picked up at U202 and must be returned by December 14th.  Please give the gift of life! - Y. Bright-Poai

UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT HILO, CHANCELLOR'S SCHOLARSHIP

The Chancellor's Scholarship is a 4 year tuition scholarship.  To qualify for this scholarship, students must be in the top 10% of their graduating class, a GPA of 3.5 or better and have demonstrated leadership and/or community service.  Students interested in this scholarship must complete the application, send official transcripts and SAT or ACT scores, 2 letters of reference (at least one must be from a teacher or counselor) and complete a personal statement.  Please see Mrs. Tagawa for an application.  The deadline is January 31, 2008. - H. KANELEHUA CHORALE CONCERT:

The Kanelehua Chorale will be holding a performance at Palace Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 9 beginning at 3:00 p.m.  They are specially inviting East Hawaii high school students to attend free of charge.  The sponsored tickets are courtesy of KTA Super Stores and HPM Building Supplies.  If you are interested in attending, please come to E-103 and leave your name with Mrs. Tanabe.  Deadline is Weds., Dec. 5. - D. VARIETY SHOW TALENT ACTS

Don't forget to turn in your required forms with parent signature as soon as possible and schedule your audition in Room C-204 any time except during class.  All auditions will be held on Saturday, December 8, so sign up now to get the time that works for you.  Slots are filling up and it only takes one representative for your act to schedule a time slot.  Forms are still available in Room C-204 for those who want to audition.  Hurry!  Time is running out! - M. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

SAM WALTON COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP -  is available through  www.walmartfoundation.org. Deadline for entry is January 14, 2008. Amt. $1,000.

FILIPINO WOMEN'S LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIP  -  two types of scholarships and award amts. available. University Scholarship w/ in the State of HI. & Community College Scholarship.  Student must be of Filipino ancestry, cum. GPA of 3.5 or higher. The recipient must limit their place of study to an institution of higher learning w/in the state of Hawaii. Deadline: March 16, 2008.

THE COLLEGE OF TROPICAL AGRICULTURE & HUMAN RESOURCES  (CTAHR) - would like to announce the Charles Reid Scholarship. Amt. $1,000 will be awarded for students planning to pursue a degreee in Veterinary Medecine. AP ENGLISH LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION FOR 2008-2009

Attention Sophomores!  Are you interested in taking AP Composition next year?  Mr. Williamson is going to hold a meeting on Thursday, December 6th at 12:25 in U203 to go over the course, the readings, and generally what you can expect from the class.  If you can't make it but are still interested, see Mr. Williamson in U203 for more details. - K. Are you seeking an English class where you can really express yourself?  Do you enjoy writing but need some help to make everything you write sparkle and shine?  Sign up for the Directed Studies in English course for the 2008-2009 school year.  If you have questions, there will be a meeting about this class during morning recess on Wednesday, December 5 starting at 10:20 in U203.   - K. Did you know, that all of you, in some way, shape or form, will be a teacher some day?  Would you like to know more about teaching and what it takes to be a teacher?  Sign up for the Teacher Education class for 2008-2009 school year.  There will be a meeting on Friday, December 7 during morning recess in U203 for those of you interested in finding out more about this class.  If you can't make them meeting, see Mr. Williamson for details. - K. VARIETY SHOW DATE CHANGE

The 2008 Variety Show has been rescheduled from Saturday, February 23 to Sunday, February 24.  All performers will be required to attend the dress rehearsal on the evening of Saturday, February 23.  The committee regrets if this change will create an inconvenience for anyone involved.   - M. If you are a senior and you are interested in purchasing an ad in the 2007-2008 yearbook, please see Mrs. Castillo in D-201 asap.  There are a few ad pages left in the yearbook, and pages will be sold on a first come, first served basis. - K. Castillo

PULL UP CHALENGE

The U.S. Marine Corps is having a pull-up challenge on Thursday, December 6 in the quad during lunch recess.  Great opportunity to promote physical fitness and win prizes. - A. Schlegelmilch

Sign-ups for the WHS Canoe Paddling team will be held on Wed 12/5/07 during lunch recess in front of the gym. - T. Correa

SPANISH CLUB

FACULTY & STAFF

TEACHERS' (& STAFF) HOLIDAY DESSERT CONTEST:

BAM! Let the competition begin! The students know that teachers (& staff) are great cooks and pastry chefs.  Create a dessert and enter it in the Holiday Dessert Contest.  Bring six pieces of your dessert to E-103 on Monday, 12/10 to be judged during lunch recess by student judges.   - D.
