GENERAL

HOMECOMING KICK-OFF & CLOSING RALLIES:

Both rallies are closed to the public.  Please do not encourage outsiders to attend as they will be turned away at the door.  The rallies are for current Waiakea HS students, staff, and invited guests. - D. Tanabe

PANDAS NEEDED:

It's not too late!  The Class of 2011 is in need of marchers for the Homecoming Parade.  Get your permission forms from Scot Sanehira, Alyssalyn Buyuan, or any class officer.   - D. Tanabe

HOMECOMING WEEK 2007:

Tomorrow is T-BIRD PRIDE DAY.  Wear leather and/or denim and enter the dress-up contest during lunch recess.  An obstacle course will also be set up during lunch recess.  Participate, have fun, and win prizes!   - D. Tanabe

HOMECOMING GRAND MARSHALS:

The Homecoming committee is pleased to announced Dr. Patricia Nekoba and Mrs. Jessie Veriato as this year's parade grand marshals.  Come and join them in the Homecoming Parade on Friday, Oct. 26 beginning at

3:30 p.m. at Sparky Kawamoto Swim Stadium.   Permission forms are available from ATTENDANCE MAKEUP 2-3PM MON-THURS

Students must be at attendance makeup in C 102 by 2pm to be allowed entrance.  Attendance makeup is from 2-3pm.  No exceptions.  Homework tickets ARE NOT necessary for admittance. - P. you class advisors. - D. Tanabe

FOOD DRIVE

Hui Hawaii 'o Waiakea will be holding a food drive from October 22 - November 8, 2007.  Please help by donating canned goods and non-perishable food items.  Doantions will be accepted in rooms C101 and C102.  All donations will be given to the Hawaii Island Food Bank for their Thanksgiving/Holiday Drive.  Mahalo! - K. COLLEGE PRESENTATION

CHAMINADE -  A representative from Chaminade will be doing a presentation in GRAC on Monday, October 29, 2007 at 10 a.m.

Chaminade has 23 Bachelor Degree Programs, as well as a Masters Degree Program in Education, Business Admin., Psychology, and Criminal Justice. Sign up for a pass if interested. - N. Okinaka

NO HOMECOMING MOVIE NIGHT/DANCE:

Refunds will be made during morning recesses only today and tomorrow for those students who turned in their permission forms.  Bring your bid  to get your refund.   - D. Tanabe

ALL SENIORS WHO TOOK THE COMPASS TEST

If you are interested in attending Hawaii Community College next school year, the "Kama'aina  Application" came  in. Please pick up an application at Q203 ASAP - G. Victorine

KEY CLUB

Any members who did not sign-out a UNICEF box should do so as soon as possible with Mrs. Sato or Chad Matsui.  Remember that this is a MANDATORY project and those who do not participate will be on probation.  All boxes must be returned by November 6th or sooner. - K. Sato

ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP  

Senior Scholarship opportunity - The Elks National Foundation of the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks of the USA is offering the 2008 "Most Valuable Student" scholarship nationwide to high school seniors who are pursuing a 4 year degree on a full-time basis in a college/university in the USA.  Winners will receive 4 year awards ranging from $4,000 - $60,000.  Applicants must be citizens of the US and will be judged on financial need, leadership and scholarship.  Completed applications must be received at the Hilo Elks Lodge on or before January 11, 2008.  They can be mailed or dropped off at 150 Kinoole Street, Hilo, HI.  Applications will then advance through local, district and state competitions to reach the national competition.  For the application, go to www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm or go to GRAC. - H. BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Senior scholarship opportunity!  The 2008 Burger King Scholars Program is offering a $1,000 scholarship.  Applicants must be high school seniors who: maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, work part-time an average of 15 hrs per week, 40 weeks per year, actively involved in community service activities, demonstrate financial need and plan to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4 year college, university or vocational/technical school by the Fall of the application year.  Log on today at www.bk.com/scholars to apply.  Last day to submit applications is by postmark deadline, February 15, 2008. - H. MENSA EDUCATION AND RESEARCH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Senior scholarship opportunity!  Awards are made on the basis of an essay of no more than 550 words that describe the applicant's career, vocation, or academic goals.  It is not necessary that the applicant be a member of Mensa.  The only eligibility requirement are that the applicant be enrolled, for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited US institution of post-secondary education and that the applicant be currently residing in the area of a participating local group of American Mensa.  Go to www.mensafoundation.org/scholarships to print the official entry forms.  All entries must be postmarked on or before January 15, 2008. - H. PUERTO RICAN HERITAGE SOCIETY OF HAWAII SCHOLARSHIP

Senior scholarship opportunity!  This Society offers up to two annual scholarships of $500 each to outstanding students who will be enrolled full-time at an accredited 4 year university in Hawaii for the 2008 - 2009 academic year.  All applicants must be Hawaii residents and must be a graduating senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.  The principal bases for consideration for this award are:  academic achievement and scholastic ability, character and motivation and financial need.  For more information or for the scholarship application, go to GRAC.  Deadline is February 1, 2008. - H. RUNNING START

The deadline for applying to Running Start is December 1.  Students need to see their counselor about taking the COMPASS test before it's too late.  The spring schedule for Hawaii Community College should posted online within the next 2 weeks. - M. Akiona

ABOUT FACE PROGRAM

Hurry and turn in your About Face application form to your counselor.  Limited space is still available.  Earn $240 for attending 16 class sessions.  Classes start November 2. - M. Akiona
