ATTENTION SENIORS!

If you missed the Aug. 31st deadline for the yearbook parent patron section, Mrs. Castillo is extending the due date.  If you and your parents would like to be a part of the parent patron page(s), please turn in your money to the yearbook staff or Mrs. Castillo in room D-203 by the end of this month.  The senior class thanks you for your support in bringing down our total cost for the senior section.  Every bit counts!  Let's go Vipers! - K. BANNED BOOKS WEEK

Help your library celebrate "Banned Books Week" by reading a banned or challenged book.  Celebrate our democratic freedom to choose and to express our opinions by borrowing challenged or banned book!  Do you realize that the Harry Potter series, Where's Waldo? and To Kill a Mockingbird are among books that have been challenged at other libraries?  And did you know that in countries such as Cuba, Myanmar and Russia, journalists, poets and writers are jailed and even killed for expressing their opinions?  Stop by and take the "Banned Books Quiz!" - G. MINIATURE CASTLES

Enchanted Castles of Europe and from the Lord of the Rings are now on display in the library's locked glass case, courtesy of Don Barnes.  The case is open to anyone who'd like to share their personal collections or to classes to share their work. - G. Kobayashi

JV AND VARSITY SOFTBALL SIGN-UPS

All girls interested in playing JV or Varsity softball for WHS are to meet with coach Bo Saiki on Wed 9/26/07 in front of the gym during lunch recess. - T. Correa

MATH LEAGUE

MANDATORY practice for ALL Math League members (even if you are not on a team) Friday, Sep 21. After School.  Our first meet is Wed. Sep 26, we need to practice!  There is a rumor that there might be food.  Remember, it's about the food.  If unable to attend and partake of this rumor of food, please see Mr. Anderson before the end of the day on Friday. JUNIOR HOMECOMING SHIELD

Hey Juniors meet in  R202 on Monday during  lunch recess if you are interested in helping with this year's homecoming shield!  Bring your ideas and creativity so we can decide on a plan. - M. Akiona

 

FACULTY & STAFF

FREE BALLROOM DANCING

To celebrate National Ballroom Dance Week, there is going to be  free mini lessons on the tango, west coast swing, and the rumba at the Hilo Intermediate Bandroom tonight from 7-9pm.  It is sponsored by the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association.  New session starts on Oct. 9th and runs for 10 weeks.  Fees are $10 for membership and a discount of 2 classes(tango, west coast swing, or rumba) free to Waiakea High Staff members and a fee of $8 for the 3rd class.  Come and have some fun.  No partners required.
