GENERAL

FEDERAL STUDENT AID PRESENTATION

Cindy Cameron from the USDOE Federal Student Aid Awareness and OUtreach Office in DC will be doing a 40 minute talk story session at WHS for students, counselors and parents on Wednesday, October 31, 2007, from 1-1:40pm in the library.  Passes are available in GRAC.  Ms Cameron will discuss

*the basics of federal student aid and where to find more information

*FAFSA for 2008: she will at least have draft copies of the web worksheet

*EFC: the expected family contribution (which does not only come from family income information)

**Come with questions about your own situation (she can answer during the presentation if it pertains to everyone, if not, she'll answer questions afterwards)

ATTENTION SENIORS!

If you missed the Aug. 31st deadline for the yearbook parent patron section, Mrs. Castillo is extending the due date.  If you and your parents would like to be a part of the parent patron page(s), please turn in your money to the yearbook staff or Mrs. Castillo in room D-203 by the end of this month.  The senior class thanks you for your support in bringing down our total cost for the senior section.  Every bit counts!  Let's go Vipers! - K. AFTERSCHOOL CONCESSION

Daily specials continue until the end of the quarter.  Don't forget to pre-order your bento for this Friday.   Cost is $5.00 for a Blane's Korean Chicken Bento.  Go to D-203 during either recess, or E-103 afterschool to purchase your ticket and place your order.  Pick up is on Friday, Sept 21 in E-103 after school.  Thank you for supporting the Senior class. - K. Last chance to pick up an application packet for the Huiana Internships!  Come and learn more about earning 1/2 credit and getting hands-on work experience.  Pick up an application packet from Mrs. Yamanaka in U102.  Deadline to turn in application forms is Thursday, Sept. 27th. - R. Yamanaka

TO ALL INTERESTED INDUSTRIAL AND ENGINEERING ACADEMY STUDENTS

The Waiakea High School Technology Learning Center is still taking student applications for those interested in after school courses in Electronics, Computers, or Electric Vehicles.  Mr. Marshall is offering two courses in Electronic Communications Systems and Network Technologies.  Mr. Kiyan is offering the Electrikar II course in building an electric car.  All courses involve problem-solving and hands-on activities.  All classes are open to all highly motivated students in grades 9 -12 with interests in electronics, computers, engineering, and/or automotive technology.  Applications can be picked up from Mr. Kiyan in Auto Shop or Mr. Marshall in Electronics.  Applications are due by October 8, 2007. - D. PSAT TESTING FEES

The PSAT/NMSQT will be held on Saturday, October 20, at 7:30 a.m.at the WHS CAFE.. Students in Gr. 9, 10 & 11 who are interested in taking the test can register in GRAC ( Port. 12). COST IS $13. Both cash & checks will be accepted. Make checks  payable to WAIAKEA HIGH SCHOOL. Beginning - TUESDAY,  SEPTEMBER 18TH. LAST DAY TO REGISTER WILL ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH !!  This year, the test is being offered FREE  of charge to SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS !! FREE !  FREE !! Bring your  H.S. ID to GRAC when you register. Any questions, come to GRAC. Students can register - RECESS, LUNCH RECESS & AFTER SCHOOL, NOT DURING CLASS TIME.  - N. Okinaka

SWIM AND WATERPOLO SIGN-UPS

All students interested in joining the WHS Swim team meet/sign-up with the coach on Wed. 9/19 in front of the gym.  All girls interested in playing water polo for WHS meet/sign-up with the coach on Wed. 9/19 in front of the gym - T. Correa

VOLLEYBALL TONIGHT:

SPANISH CLUB

Thank you all for doing such a good job with the fundraiser! We'll be having a meeting next week, September 19, to vote on t-shirt designs and continue with el dia de los muertos, so make sure you spread the word! a special thank you to Senor Tomas! gracias! - S. Kiriu

ART CLUB
