COUNTY OF HI SOLID WASTE DIV. LOGO CONTEST:

Big Island students are invited to help create the County of HI Solid Waste/Recycling Logo.  If you are interested in entering the contest, come to E-103 for the contest rules & regulations.  Deadline for submission is Sept. 27, 2008.  Call 961-8549 if you have any questions. - D. Tanabe

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY

A representative from Loyola Marymount University will be doing a presentation in GRAC on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 10:30am. Private 4 yr. university.  SAT or ACT. Come to GRAC for a pass if interested. - N. Okinaka

MID QUARTER FAIR REMINDER

Just a reminder ! Don't forget the Mid Quarter Fair is taking place today - Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 2pm.  in the Library. See you all there. - N. Okinaka

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

GROMET FOUNDATION - For students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.   Amt:  $1,500.00 annually for students attending Hawaii universities. $5,000 for students attending mainland universities. Personal statement, letters of recommendation, transcripts, SAT/or PSAT scores, copy of family's 2006 Federal tax return. Deadline: Friday, October 27, 2007.

SAE Engineering Scholarship -  Seniors intending to earn a degree in engineering or a related science include: (math, chemistry,physics, biology, computer science) transcripts, SAT I and/or ACT scores. Deadline: December 1, 2007.   Use the online application and information at  http://www.sae.org/students/engschlor.htm.  For more info./ application to any of these scholarships, come to GRAC. - N. COLLEGE PRESENTATIONS

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY  -  A representative from Loyola Marymount U. will be doing a presentation in GRAC, on Thurday, Sept. 13, 2007 at 10:30am. Loyola Marymount U. is located in Los Angeles, CA. and is a private 4 yr. college.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY  - is a private 4 yr. university, located in California. A presentation will be held in GRAC, on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at 12:15 pm. If interested in any of these presentations, come to GRAC  for a pass. - N. Okinaka

The fall About Face Program will start first week in November. Earn $240 while you learn!   See your counselor for an application form now! - M. Akiona

SENIOR SIGNATURES FOR YEARBOOK

All seniors should come by D-201 during morning recess on September 4th, 5th and 6th during morning recess in order to place their signature in the 2008 yearbook. - K. Castillo

RUNNING START

Correction on Running Start deadline!  Oct 31 is the deadline to apply for a Gear-Up scholarship.  Running Start deadline for Spring semester is December 1.  Be sure to complete your COMPASS test early. - M. Akiona

TO ALL INTERESTED INDUSTRIAL AND ENGINEERING ACADEMY STUDENTS The Waiakea High School Technology Learning Center will be offering three after school courses in Electronics, Computers, and Electric Vehicles.  Mr. Marshll will be offering courses in Electronic Communications Systems and Network Technologies for those interested in electronics, computers, and networking.  Mr. Kiyan will be offering the Electrikar II course in which a full size electric vehicle will be built.  All classes are for those students interested in the Industrial and Engineering Academy.  All classes will incorportate problem solving and hands-on activities.  All classes will start in the second quarter and are open to all highly motivated students in grades 9 - 12.  All classes will give one elective credit for those that successfully complete it.  Applications or more information can be obtained from Mr. Kiyan in J-Auto Shop or Mr. Marshall in J-Electronics.  Applications must be turned in by October 8, 2007. - D. SENIOR HOMECOMING BANNER

Calling all Viper artists!  We need your help in coming up with a design for our senior homecoming banner.  The 2007 Homecoming theme is "Rev it Up!"  Designs must relate to the theme.  Submit a rough sketch of your idea to Mrs. Yamanaka (U102), Mrs. Uyeda (D203), or Kellie Miyazu by Thursday, Sept. 13th.  Remember to be creative and original! - R. Considering attending a community college? Interested in college & high school credit at the same time through Running Start? Do you need a REALITY CHECK on your Math and English in terms of college work?  A "YES" means you should be taking the COMPASS Test right here at Waiakea.  No cost involved, immediate results, placement counseling and post-secondary planning available...all we need is your social security card to get you started.  Come to Q203 and/or call us ext. 295. - H. SGA CONGRESS MEETING:

The first SGA Congress meeting of the year will take place this Thursday, Sept. 6 in the cafeteria.  The meeting will start promptly at 11:35 am.  All social studies reps., SGA chairpersons, class and service club presidents, please attend.   - D. Tanabe

SENIOR MALE CHEERLEADERS

Sign up of Senior male cheerleading in D-203.  There will be a mandatory meeting on Monday, Sept. 10th during lunch recess in D-203.  If you have signed up and cannot make this meeting, see Stacy or Mrs. Uyeda.  - K. Uyeda
