COUNTY OF HI SOLID WASTE DIV. LOGO CONTEST:

Big Island students are invited to help create the County of HI Solid Waste/Recycling Logo.  If you are interested in entering the contest, come to E-103 for the contest rules & regulations.  Deadline for submission is Sept. 27, 2008.  Call 961-8549 if you have any questions. - D. Tanabe

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY

A representative from Loyola Marymount University will be doing a presentation in GRAC on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 10:30am. Private 4 yr. university.  SAT or ACT. Come to GRAC for a pass if interested. - N. Okinaka

MID QUARTER FAIR

Just a reminder that Mid Quarter Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 2:00pm. in the WHS Library.   See you all there !  - N. Okinaka

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

GROMET FOUNDATION - For students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.

 Amt:  $1,500.00 annually for students attending Hawaii universities. $5,000 for students attending mainland universities. Personal statement, letters of recommendation, transcripts, SAT/or PSAT scores, copy of family's 2006 Federal tax return. Deadline: Friday, October 27, 2007.

SAE Engineering Scholarship -  Seniors intending to earn a degree in engineering or a related science include: (math, chemistry,physics, biology, computer science) transcripts, SAT I and/or ACT scores. Deadline: December 1, 2007.   Use the online application and information at  http://www.sae.org/students/engschlor.htm.  For more info./ application to any of these scholarships, come to GRAC. - N. COLLEGE PRESENTATIONS

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY  -  A representative from Loyola Marymount U. will be doing a presentation in GRAC, on Thurday, Sept. 13, 2007 at 10:30am. Loyola Marymount U. is located in Los Angeles, CA. and is a private 4 yr. college.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY  - is a private 4 yr. university, located in California. A presentation will be held in GRAC, on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at 12:15 pm. If interested in any of these presentations, come to GRAC  for a pass. - N. Okinaka

SENIOR MOB SHOT

The Senior Class Mob Shot for yearbook will take place on September 14, 2007 at 12:10pm.  Photo will be taken outside on the grassy hill next to the gym.  If it is rainy that day, photo will be taken in the school gym.  Please be prompt as photo will be taken at the beginning of lunch recess. - K. HUIANA INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Looking for real world experiences?  Want to earn 1/2 credit?  Pick up an application for the Huiana Internship program from Mrs. Yamanaka, U102. - R. Yamanaka

FEDERAL SURVEY CARDS  

are for those parents/guardians who work for the federal govt or live on federal property.  Please take home the cards or "blue" letters to parent/guardian. Cards should be returned the next day, Sept 5th to your pd 1 teaacher.  - M. Masaki

SENIOR SIGNATURES FOR YEARBOOK

All seniors should come by D-201 during morning recess on September 4th, 5th and 6th during morning recess in order to place their signature in the 2008 yearbook. - K. Castillo

SCHOOL PRIDE DAY:

School Pride Day is tomorrow.  Don't forget to wear any school-logo attire (club, class, school, athletic) and come to E-103 before school to be eligible to win a Prince Kuhio Plaza gift certificate.   - D. Tanabe

RUNNING START

Correction on Running Start deadline!  Oct 31 is the deadline to apply for a Gear-Up scholarship.  Running Start deadline for Spring semester is December 1.  Be sure to complete your COMPASS test early. - M. Akiona

MEETING FOR CLUB: GAY STRAIGHT ALLIANCE

All those interested in joining Waiakea's newly formed GSA ( Gay Straight Alliance) club, there is an informational meeting today (Tuesday, September 4, 2007) at first recess in Mrs. Tagawa's room (port. 5). WHSNATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

There will be a meeting for all senior members on Wednesday, Sept. 5, during lunch recess in Rm R102.  Meeting will start at 12:00 noon.  Please be prompt. - J. Nekoba

Calling all male sharks....C'mon & join our Homecoming Male Cheerleading Team.  Our first meeting will be on WEDNESDAY, 9/5/07, in R202, during Lunch Recess. -T. Kawada

SGA CONGRESS MEETING:

The first SGA Congress meeting of the year will take place this Thursday, Sept. 6 in the cafeteria.  The meeting will start promptly at 11:35 am.  All social studies reps., SGA chairpersons, class and service club presidents, please attend.   - D. Tanabe

FACULTY & STAFF

FEDERAL SURVEY -

it's that time of year again.  Only those students whose parent/guardian works on federal property or works for the federal govt should get a card.  If they did not get one, please send them to R-101 for a card.  ALL OTHER students should be given the BLUE letter to parents.  For every federally affiliated student, the federal govt gives additional monies to the school, therefore it is very important to get the cards back. Please have students return the card to the pd. 1 teacher on Sept.5th, or by the end of that week. Thank you very much for your cooperation and assistance.  - M. Masaki
