GENERAL

TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION MONTH

Sex has consequences.  Did you know. . .Teen mothers are less likely to complete high school (only one-third receive a high school diploma) and only 1.5% have a college degree by age 30.  Teen mothers are more likely to end up on welfare (nearly 80 percent of unmarried teen mothers end up on welfare).  See Mrs. Yamanaka, U102 if you have any questions. - R. SENIOR AWARDS:

Don't forget to attend tonight's Senior Awards beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.   - D. Tanabe

WHS ATHLETIC AWARDS NIGHT  

WHS Athletic Awards will be presented on Thurs. 5/22 at 6:00pm in the Waiakea High Gym. All athletes are invited to attend and collect their certificates.  Athletes are asked to wear their team shirts.    - T. Correa

JAGUARS OF 2010

A class cookbook is being created for our fall fundraiser!  Please submit 2 of your FAVORITE recipes:  one dessert and/or entree/appetizer.  Recipe handouts will be distributed through 10th grade english teachers, Misha Takane, or Ms. Yanagisawa in P4.  - P. Yanagisawa

MEMORIAL DAY LEI:

All grade levels...this is the final push for Memorial Day lei making.  Students, if you are making ti-leaf lei at home, don't forget to bring them to your respective class head advisor by Thurs. morning, 8:00 a.m.  All lei must be 22-24" in length before tying.  Go Warriors, let's beat the outer-island competition! - D. STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

Pre-registration for school bussing services for the 2008-2009 School Year has started. Handbooks, applications and information on registering are available in the office if you are planning on using the school bus services as a means of transportation to and/or from school next year.  - M. PROJECT GRAD

Confirmations were sent out last week to those who registered for Project Grad by the early deadline of 5/09.  If you did not receive yours, check with your Pd. 1 teacher.  Seniors who registered after 5/09 will receive their confirmations by the end of this week.  The final deadline is Thursday, 5/29 by 3:00 pm to Mrs. Sato (Q-201).  If you have any other questions, see Mrs. Sato. - K. JUNIOR COMMENCEMENT DECORATIONS COMMITTEE MEMBERS

There will be an important planning meeting Friday, May 23 in Q202 during lunch recess. Please attend.  Commencement is just around the corner and we need your help. - C. Ray

JR. CLASS CANDY LEI MAKING

Juniors come by R202 during lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for candy lei making. - K. Irie

MANADATORY SOUND CREW MEETING

There will be a mandatory Sound Crew meeting Wendesday, May 21 at lunchtime to start planning for next year.  Lunch will be provided. - A. Roberts

LOCKER REFUND:

Locker refund for SENIORS will be held this Thurs. and Fri. outside of E-103 during morning recess only.  Please clean out your locker and return your lock in order to get your refund.  Underclassman refunds will be held next week. - D. Tanabe

JUNIORS WITH MEMORIAL DAY TI LEAF LEIS

Please bring all of your ti leaf leis on Thursday, May 22 before period 1 to Room Q202.  We need to box them and have them ready for pick up by 8:30 am.  Don't forget! - C. Ray

SENIORS WITHOUT ENGLISH CLASSES

Any senior who is not taking English at WHS, don't forget to pick up a new commencement newsletter outside Mrs. Tagawa's office.  This newsletter contains important information and dates for commencement! - H. Tagawa

SUMMER SCHOOL VIA INTERNET/E-SCHOOL

Registration for E-School's Summer School program is now open.  Each course is $80.00.  Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Problem Solving, General Art I, Modern History of Hawaii, Participation in a Democracy, Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop, Health , Career and Life Planning, Ethnic Studies and Intro to Computing are the courses being offerred.  Go online to: http://www.eschool.k12.hi.us for more information or see Mrs. Kobayashi in the library.  Students need to be self-motivated because everything is done via the Internet, with your teacher located off-island.  Session runs June 12 to July 24.  Courses for the FREE Fall session have also been announced.  They are much more interesting, including  Hawaiian, Spanish, Economics, Physics and Advanced Placement U.S. and World History,  and AP Computer Science. - G.
