GENERAL

TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION MONTH

Sex has consequences.  Did you know. . .Teens who have school behavior problems, who smoke, drink or use drugs, and who engage in delinquent activities are all much more likely to become teen parents.  See Mrs. Yamanaka, U102 if you have questions. - R. Yamanaka

STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

Applications to ride school bus for next school year will be distributed by bus drivers  within the next two weeks.  It is important that returning bus riders complete the applications and submit to bus driver as soon as possible and by the end of May.  Upon return to school next year, your permanent bus pass will be ready, as long as the application  and if applicable, payment has been made to the school office.  For any questions regarding student transportation contact your officer, John Saplan at 974-6411.   - M. SENIOR PROM MEMORY BOOKS

Reminder:  Everyone who purchased a photo package of senior prom pictures also receives a FREE memory book.  Please come and pick up your memory book from U102.   - R. Yamanaka

WHS ALUMNI AND FOUNDATION EVENT

Tonight's the night!  You are all invited to attend the third and last Na Mea Kupaianaha O Waiakea event from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at the library.  A total of 109 alumni photos will be on display in the library.  This is a major fundraiser for the Waiakea High School Foundation, which has funded many school projects this year.  Donations of food and money are welcome. - G. SR. CLASS T-SHIRT

Sr. Class shirts are in!  Anyone wanting to purchase a new shirt, see Mrs. Uyeda in D-203 during recesses or after school.  Cost is $8.00.  First come, first serve.  Once we run out there will be no reprinting.  Buy your shirt today! - K. Uyeda

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

ALOHA EXCHANGE CLUB -  On behalf of the Aloha Exchange Club - applications are now being accepted for the Youth of the Year Program.  The program recognizes outstanding Seniors. Amt. - $500.00. Essay required. Deadline: May 23, 2008.

HILO JAYCEES SCHOLARSHIP -  Recipients must be involved in at least one extracurricular or community based organization that provides volunteer based services to the communties of the Island of Hawaii. G.P.A. - 3.0 or above. FAFSA, Essay required.  Amt. - $1,000.00.  Deadline: June 2, 2008.  For more information/application, come to GRAC (port. 12 ). - N. Okinaka

 ALU LIKE SCHOLARSHIP

ALU LIKE - NATIVE HAWAIIAN SUMMER SCHOOL ASSISTANCE SCHOLARSHIP  -   Kamehameha Schools is funding ALU LIKE to provide Native Hawaiian summer school assistance in DOE schools. The funding includes Scholarship Awards for qualified students to attend DOE summer schools in addition to intersessions. JUNIOR SHARK DONATIONS

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY!

Waiakea Lions is offering two $500 scholarships to any senior who is has committed to either UHH or HCC for the fall.  Please submit a visi and personal data sheet in an envelope to Mrs. Tagawa's mailbox in the main office by Friday, May 16th, at 10 am.  See Mrs. Tagawa if you have any questions.  Thank you! - H. HO'IKE FOR THE ARTS

YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND A FREE NIGHT OF MUSIC AND SONG AS THE ARTS AND COMMUNICATIONS ACADEMY HOSTS THEIR FIRST COMPLEX-WIDE HO'IKE FOR THE ARTS ON THURSDAY, MAY 15TH IN THE WHS GYM.   COME AND ENJOY THE MUSIC OF WAIAKEA WAENA'S CHORUS, WAIAKEA ELEMENTARY'S UKULELE BAND, WAIAKEA INTERMEDIATE'S UKULELE BAND, AND THE ENSEMBLE AND DRAMA CLASSES FROM WAIAKEA HIGH SCHOOL.  THE PROGRAM BEGINS AT 6:00 AND ENDS AT ABOUT 7:30 P.M.  PLEASE SUPPORT THE WAIAKEA COMPLEX ART AND MUSIC PROGRAMS! - S. WHS ATHLETIC AWARDS NIGHT  

WHS Athletic Awards will be presented on Thurs. 5/22 at 6:00pm in the Waiakea High Gym. All athletes are invited to attend and collect their certificates.  Athletes are asked to wear their team shirts.    - T. Correa

GIRLS SOCCER MEETING

Meeting will be held for all girls interested in playing soccer for WHS next year ( 08-09 school year). meeting will be held on Friday 5/16/08 at 2:30 in front of the gym   - T. Correa

COMMENCEMENT CONCESSION

Juniors who would like to help out with this year's Commencement Concession should attend a meeting on THURS., May 15 in R-202 during lunch recess. - T. Kawada

SIERRA STUDENT COALITION

Meeting this weekend at the beginning of lunch.  We need to elect officers for next year.  Also, we will be recycling after school. - K. Williamson
