GENERAL

JUNIORS:  COMMENCEMENT DECORATIONS

All juniors interested in helping with this year's commencement decorations, please sign up in R202 with Mrs. Sakai-Kawada.  There will be a planning/information meeting on Friday, April 4 during lunch recess in Q202.  Please be prompt.  For any questions, see Dustin Morita, chairperson. - C. Ray

ALOHA FRIDAYS

Wear Aloha/Hawaiian attire on Friday, April 4 and come to C102 during morning recess to receive a treat as well as to enter the drawing for a gift certificate.  Dress up every Friday during the month of April, and be eligible to win a grand prize.  Mahalo - K. Kaleohano

COMMENCEMENT EMCEE AUDITIONS

Students interested in trying out for commencement emcee, please pick up a script and sign up for an audition time with Mrs. Tagawa in P5 this week, starting from Wednesday.  Auditions will take place on Friday, April 11th, afterschool starting from 2:15 pm.  Any questions - see Mrs. Lyman-Mandaloniz or Mrs. Tagawa.  Thank you! - H. HUIANA SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Will you be a Junior or Senior next year?  Interested in an exciting, hands-on career pathway work experience that will result in 1/2 or 1 elective credit that will count towards your graduation requirements?  Come and pick up an informational packet from Mrs. Yamanaka in U102.  Deadline to sign up is April 25th. - R. JUNIORS:  MEMORIAL DAY LEIS

Memorial Day lei making has already begun in Q202 during lunch recess and after school.  If you give your time, please donate ti leaves!  Drop them off at Q202 anytime.  The more people we have, the more leis we can make.  See Tracie Sakane if you have questions. - C. Ray

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

HAWAII CROP IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION -  Applicant must submit an essay on how biotechnological innovations benefit and will have future benefit to Hawaii.  Three, $500 scholarships. GPA & financial need are NOT  required.  Application & essay can be submitted via the internet at  www.hiciaonline.com.  Deadline: April 18, 2008.

EAST HAWAII HIROSHIMA KENJIN KAI  -  Applicant must be a child or grandchild of an East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai.

Amt. $1,000.00. Deadline:  April 26, 2008.

KOHALA PUERTO RICAN SOCIAL CLUB SCHOLARSHIP  -  Applicant must be of Puerto Rican ancestry. Biological parent(s) must be a paid - up member of the Puerto Rican Social  Club.  Deadline :  April 30, 2008.

GUSTAV HANNEMANN & FAIASO SOLIAI HANNEMANN AWARD  -  Applicant must be of  Samoan ancestry.  Amt. - $500.

to one Male & one Female. GPA -  2.5 or higher. Participation in student gov., pref. in leadership positions, on-campus activities or community serv.  Deadline :  May 2, 2008.

FILIPINO BUSINESS WOMEN'S ASSOC. FOUNDATION  -  Open to all High School Seniors w/ cum. GPA - 3.5. Essay, resume. Describe any activities that benefited or promoted the Filipino community. FAFSA report. Deadline:  May 30, 2008.

KU HA'AHEO ATTENDANCE MAKE-UP SESSION (KHAMS)

AFTER SCHOOL ATTENDANCE MAKE-UP IN ROOM C102 HAS BEEN CANCELLED THIS WEEK (04/01-04/04).  KHAMS WILL RESUME ON APRIL 07 FROM 2:00P.M. - 3:00P.M. IN ROOM C102.  DUE TO THE LATER START DATE, KHAMS WILL END ON MAY 8TH INSTEAD OF MAY 1ST. - R. Agsalda

FOODLAND'S SHOP FOR HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP:

Foodland's Shop for Higher Education Scholarship Program will be awarding three WHS seniors with $2,000 scholarships.  Students must have applied or plan to apply to an accredited four-year college for admission during the next academic year.   Application forms are available in GRAC or in E-103.  Deadline to submit the application is Tues., April 8, lunch recess to Mrs. Tagawa.  Awards committee will make the final decision.   - D. 13%!  That's right....13%.  That's only 31,444 pages toward the 250,000 pages we need to read by next Friday for Aunty Pua's Reading Challenge.  We know that you did read at least one book over spring break.  How about filling out a Reading Challenge form?  Also, the sophomore class is leading in points...so does this mean that Principal Koga will be wearing a jaguar outfit at the Waiakea/Kam Volleyball game on April 22?  We're making plans for a big Reading celebration on April 17 with Pua in a dress, but if we can't read enough pages, we'll all be very, very disppointed  So.....please READ! - G. CONGRATULATIONS DECA STUDENTS!

The Annual Hawaii State CTSO Convention and DECA Career Development Conference was held this past Mon-Wed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort & Spa on Oahu.  The Waiakea DECA students brought home 13 medals, ALL students performed extremely well.  Congratulations to Gerrie Morishita, Christopher Pilor and Ariel Ray (each won 2 role play medallions and a top 6 finalist medal in Business Services and Retail Merchandising), Karlissa Pidong (2 role play medallions in Marketing Management), Robyn Taniguchi (2nd place written exam in Business Services), Dustin Morita (role play medallion in Retail Merchandising), Kellie Ancheta, Kahea Matsumoto, Travis Morita and Aaron Sugimoto (role play competency certificates).  Thank you for representing Waiakea High's Business Academy, we're proud of you!  - S. WAIAKEA HIGH SCHOOL SKILLSUSA ANNOUNCEMENT  

Congratulations to the following students that competed in this year's Hawaii State SkillsUSA competitions in Honolulu on April 2, 2008:  Tony Daub - Participant in Job Skills Demonstration, Jeremy Daquep - Participant in Carpentry,  Casey Shinshiro - 3rd Place in Automotive Service, Colby Yoshida - 2nd Place in Automotive Service, Jordan Aguiar - 1st Place in Automotive Service, and Kaimi Scott - 1st Place in Cabinet Making.  As first place winners, Jordan and Kaimi will have the opportunity to represent Hawaii in their respective contests in June at the National SkillsUSA Competitions in Kansas City.  What a great job Warriors! - D. JUNIOR COUNTRY FAIR

ATTENTION WARRIORS!!  The Sharks need help in our fundraising efforts!!!  Bring in used goods to be sold at the Junior Country Fair rummage sale.  Donations can be dropped off anytime at R202.  Larger items and other donations can also be dropped off this Saturday, 4/5, from 12 - 3 pm in the student parking lot.   - T.
