CONGRATULATIONS HISTORY DAY PARTICIPANTS

Congratulations to all History Day District participants, you're all winners and represented Waiakea High with pride.  Special congratulations to the following students who qualified for the State Competition - Website:  Sam Heinzen, Jordan Olive, and Jesse Shiroma, Nolan Kamitaki, and Carissa Pajo and Melise Nekoba.  Display:  Katie Kouchi, Jessica Matias, and Chen Li and Gerry Rivera.  Paper:  Hollie Lambert and Kenji Suzuki.  Performance:  Jeremy Tomono and Tyler Thornhill. CANCER AWARENESS DAY:

Come to the quad today during lunch recess, listen to the Navy Rock band and donate money to the American Cancer Society.  Your teachers will be walking (or dancing) around the quad for our annual Teachers Relay for Life.  Give generously.  Tomorrow we will have gymnasts and cheerleaders doing flips for 25 cents to Flip Out Cancer.  Come to the quad to check it out.   - D. 2008 YEARBOOKS

If you are interested in ordering a yearbook, please come to D-201 during lunch recess this week.  Yearbooks cost $50.00 and you can pay with cash or check written to WHS.   - K. Castillo

COUNTY OF HAWAII POLICE CADET PROGRAM

The Police Cadet Program are for those seniors who are interested in a law enforcement career, who may be in school or working full-time and want to transition slowly into law enforcement with the Hawaii Police Department.  Minimum qualification requirements:  graduation from high school/or equivalent (high school students who meet graduation requirements by Feb. 29th must have writtin documentation from their high school), must be qualified to carry firearms (no domestic violence convictions), be of good moral character, be physically fit and possess a valid driver's license.  Recruitment closes on Febuary 29th.  To apply, call the County of Hawaii job hotline at 961-8618 or visit www.co.hawaii.hi.us to download an application packet.   - H. COMMENCEMENT SONG LEADER

Any senior interested in trying out for commencement song leader must attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, February 27th, at lunch recess in P5.  Auditions will take place on Friday, February 29th afterschool.  Any questions?  See Katie K, Mrs. Mandaloniz or Mrs. Tagawa.  Thank you! - H. AP EXAMS

If you are planning to take an AP exam in May, please go to GRAC (P12) to pay for the $84 exam fee (per exam).  If you qualify for a fee reduction, please see Mrs. Tagawa or Mrs. Lyman-Mandaloniz.  Payments will be collected until February 29th.  You can pay before school, at recess or afterschool.  If you are paying by check, please make the check payable to Waiakea High School.  Any questions, please see Mrs. Tagawa (P5) or Mrs. Lyman-Mandaloniz (P3).  Thank you! - H.
