ARMY NATIONAL GUARDS

MAMORU & AIKO TAKITANI FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Applications available in Mrs. Tagawa's office (P5).  Selected candidate will be awarded a $1000 scholarship and may qualify for additional scholarships of up to $10,000.  Applicants must have a strong record of academic achievement and potential, actively participate in co-curricular and extra-curricluar activities, participate in community service activities, demonstrate financial need, and be an active candidate for undergraduate acceptance into an accredited 2 or 4 year college, technical school or business school.  COMPLETED APPLICATIONS DUE BACK TO MRS. COLLEGE MID-YEAR REPORTS

Seniors who have schools that are requesting Mid-Year reports (with first semester grades), please see Mrs. Tagawa.  You must request updated transcripts from the Registrar's Office after January 24th.  Give the updated transcript, Mid-Year forms and a stamped/addressed envelope to Mrs. Tagawa for completion by the end of the month.  Please make sure that your envelope has enough stamps.  Any questions, please see Mrs. Tagawa immediately.   Thank you! - H. UH MANOA REGENTS SCHOLARSHIP

Applications are now being accepted from Seniors interested in applying for the UHM Regents Scholarship.  These scholarships recognize academic distinction combined with co-curricluar and community service accomplishments.  Regent Scholars receive a full tuition scholarship plus a stipend of $2000 each semester for 8 consecutive semesters and a one-time travel grant of $2000.  Full details about eligibility requirements are available on the website (www.hawaii.edu/diversity), along with instructions and application materials.  Application deadline is February 1st. - H. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

DAVID KAWIKA KAPAHULEHUA SCHOLARSHIP  - Area of study in Polynesian culture, language, practices or customs or other traditional Polynesian study field that perpetuates culture. G.P.A. 2.8 or better. Applicants may go to      www.wearepolynesia.net & either fill out online or download form. Deadline :  February 29, 2008.

VOLCANO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION -   Applicants must maintain their primary residence in Volcano, as the area from Akatsuka Orchids (Kahaualea Rd.)  through the Volcano Golf Course subdivision.  Amt. - $500. Deadline: March 1, 2008.

HILO MEDICAL CENTER  - Must show compelling financial need. Four (4) $1,000 scholarships are offered. Deadline: March 31. 2008.

BIG ISLAND RETIRED MILITARY ASSOCIATION  (BIRMA) - The applicant must be a graduating senior whose parent(s) or guardian(s) is/are active duty, reserve, National Guard or retired from U.S. military service. This includes the U. S. Coast Guard. Students who have completed two years in a JROTC program are also eligible regardless of their parents military service status. G.P.A. 2.8.  Amt. $500. Deadline: March 31, 2008.

HAWAII COUNTY RONALD REAGAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND  -  Amt. -  $500 - $ 2,000.00. Applicant must write a printed, typed or word processor essay on the subject chosen for the year. These scholarships are paid on behalf of the winning students directly to the college or university of their choice in the United States, within or w/o the State of HI. Deadline: April 15, 2008.

MAKAHA SONS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is a awarded to a student who plans on attending full-time an accredited college/university or trade/vocational school who plans on majoring in one of the following areas of Hawaiian Studies:  Music, Dance, Language, Culture, History or Humanities.  Applications are available on-line at www.makahasonsfoundation.com or by requesting an application at:  Makaha Sons Foundation, Scholarship Program, P.O. "BEEF STEW AND FRANK"

Waiakea High School and Waiakea Intermediate Band Boosters present an evening of music and a fun with performances by WHS and WIS bands and the one and only Frank Delima. The concert is happening this Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the WHS gym from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Tickets for the concert are $10 pre-sale for adults, $5 for 18 and under. ($15 and $10 at the door). Tickets are available from WHS & WIS Band musicians and Boosters or at Agasa Furniture in downtown Hilo. Dinner is not included but the concession will open at 5:30pm with ONO food. FEBRUARY DRIVER ED STUDENTS

Students who have signed up for February Driver ED class are to attend a mandatory parent/student meeting that will be held on Thursday, Januarry 31st, 6:30 P.M., at the school library. Student and parent must attend this meeting in order to take the class. - W. Yamauchi

GOT FUTURE?

January is College Awareness Month.  Wear college logo attire on Thurs., Jan. 31st and come to E-103 for a treat.  Also, if your are wearing college logo attire, enter a drawing and be eligible to win some prizes! - D. Tanabe

JV BASEBALL STATISTICIANS WANTED

Any Freshmen/Sophomore girl(s) interested in becoming a statistician for the JV baseball team please see Mr. Mau (E - 102) sometime this week. - G. Mau

VARSITY BASEBALL TRYOUTS

Reminder that tryouts for this year's Varsity Baseball team will begin on Monday, January 28, 2008 (rain or shine).  Please make sure that all forms are properly filled out, that you come to the field properly dressed in baseball attire, and that you have a current physical either in hand or on file with our Athletic Trainers.  Please make sure that you have baseball shoes as well as running shoes with you during the tryout period.  Bring your questions to E - 102. - G. VARSITY SOFTBALL TRYOUTS

Varsity Softball tryouts start Mon 1/28/08 at 4:00pm, on WHS Softball field.  Completed Physical and Parent Consent form required to participate.  Come dressed to participate. - T. Correa

BOYS AND GIRLS TRACK

Track tryouts start Monday 1/28/08 at 2:30pm.  All athletes interested in participating should attend. (Winter sport athletes should sign-up at that time to indicate an interest in trying out when your current sport ends.) Completed Physical and Parent Consent forms required for participation. FUTURE EDUCATORS MEETING
