SOPHOMORE NEWSLETTER

You should be receiving the December/January issue of your Tiger Times in your English class this week.  If you do not receive a copy, go to C-204 to pick up the latest issue. - K. Uyeda

TEAMING FOR TOMORROW

Unfortunately the annual Girl Scout Council's Teaming for Tomorrow career shadowing program on Oahu will not be held in 2004.  The program is being reviewed and revised.  It is expected to again be available in 2005.   - R. Yamanaka

KIWIN'S

If you are interested in volunteering to help families with their gingerbread houses this Sunday, come by Q-103 or see Kiera Y. to sign-up.  There are two shifts: 8:00 A.M - 12:00P.M. and or 12:00P.M. - 4:00P.M.  Hours will be given.  Also, if you are a SENIOR and interested in applying for a KIWIN'S scholarship, come by Q-103 to pick up an application (you must be a member of at least one year).  Thanks! - C. CLOTHING BLOW-OUT:

Come to E-103 after school only on Friday for cheap  XXL & XXXL t-shirts; white WARRIORS sweatshirts (XXL); slightly stained white polo shirts(M); leftover t-shirts from previous years; & Waiakea fabric clothing.  Prices range from $1 - $10.  Limited supply...buy now for Christmas!   - D. Tanabe

NHS JR. AND SR. MEMBERS:

Waiakea Intermediate is in need of afterschool math tutors!  We currently have 4 members who are volunteering their time twice a week, and we'd like to make the duration for tutors to be 1 month.  If you are interested in volunteering for the month of January, beginning Jan. 13, or other months next calendar year, please see Mrs. Nekoba as soon as possible.   - J. CHI8LLY WILLY DAY:

Check out the penguin dress up and race during morning recess today.  Also, during lunch recess, strawberry slush will be sold for$1.00 in E-103 in addition to the chili bowl pick up for those who purchase tickets.  Have a great day! - D. Tanabe

SUGGESTED READING FOR THE READING CHALLENGE

The library has received at least 70 new books this year, with 50 more on order.  Some new titles include The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera and Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brien.  Both have movies made from them.  Also, Murder in Paradise (Dana Ireland case) and Hawaii Scandal (Massie case).  Mysteries include School for Hawaiian girls by  Georgia McMillen and Tears of the Giraffe,an entertaining story about a lady detective in Botswana.  Check these out and if you want to read something, make a request! - G. NON-DISCLOSURE OF DIRECTORY INFORMATION

Reminder for students:  DEADLINE TO TURN IN THESE FORMS, TO THE REGISTRAR's OFFICE, IS TODAY!   This form is being re-issued due to many complaints about schools giving out directory information (name, DOB, address, telephone #, activity participation, etc) to military recruiters. - M. Masaki

JUNIOR BALL

This year's Junior Ball will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2004.  Permission forms will be available in E103 during recesses.  Bid sales will begin the first day we return from winter recess.   See Alain Takane for any questions. - M. Akiona

to Mrs. Naungayan, and chairpersons Alysha Takasaki and Amanda Yu for producing an extra-special program, "Christmas from the Heart."   Thanks also to all of the participants, advisors and teachers who allowed the students to attend mass rehearsal during pds. 1 and 3.  Great job, everyone! - D.
