GENERAL

SATURDAY SCHOOL

Check with each of your teachers regarding your absences. The 4th of 5 Saturday Schools this semester is TODAY, 11/26, at the Cafeteria from 2:00-6:00 p.m.  Absolutely no late entry. Dress standards apply, bring work to do.  Must have a valid picture ID to enter.    - M. Yamashita

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

UH-MANOA REGENTS SCHOLARSHIPS:  for entering first year UH-Manoa students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 in grades 9-11 & SAT combined score of 1300 or ACT of 29.  Recipient will receive a $1000 stipend plus a full tuition waiver.  Application deadline is the first Monday in February.  Come to GRAC for more information.

FUN FACTORY/UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII SCHOLARSHIP:  for first year students seeking a degree in any course of study at any campus of the University of Hawaii.  Applicants need a minimum GPA of 3.5; SAT or ACT scores and class rank will be considered.  Recipient will receive a $1000 stipend plus a full tuition waiver.  Come to GRAC for more information.

UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII SCHOLARSHIPS:  The Office of Student Equity and Diversity (SEED) administers over 70 scholarship programs.  Application forms are available at www.hawaii.edu/diversity under "Scholarships" & "Application Package for Entering First-Year Student SEED Scholarships". 

MAMORU & AIKO TAKITANI FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS:  for graduating senior who is a US citizen and Hawaii resident.  Applicant must have a strong record of scholastic achievement (GPA/SAT/ACT scores), actively participate in co-curricular & extra-curricular activities as well as community service activities.  Applicant must also demonstrate a need for financial assistance.  Each high school may select one candidate to receive a $1000 scholarship; candidates may then qualify for additional scholarships of up to $10,000.  Application packets should be turned in to Mrs. Kawada by FEB. 13, 2004.  Come to GRAC for more information.

DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION GOOD CITIZENS PROGRAM:  for students who demonstrate dependability, leadership and patriotism.  Come to GRAC for application information.  One applicant will be selected to represent WHS.  Forms due to Mrs. Kawada by December 3rd. 

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP:  for well-rounded students, committed to making a difference & having demonstrated achievement at a job, sport or extra-curricular activity.  One $10,000 scholarship available per state.  Check www.axa-achievement.com for application information.  Deadline to apply is December 15.      - T. COLLEGE ATHLETIC NIGHT

Tuesday, December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the WHS Library.  Jim DeMello from the University of Hawaii at Hilo & a couple of UHH coaches will be discussing NCAA & Athletic eligibility at the post secondary/University level.  Interested students and parents are invited to attend.    - T. Kawada

JUNIOR CLASS "TRUE LIFE OF A JAGUAR" TV SHOW

Hey Juniors!  Tune into our class show "True Life of  Jaguar" on channel 54 featuring "Fearless", a show about your fellow juniors getting spooked at the old Hilo Hospital or Baby's cry.  Showtimes are 11/29@11:00 a.m., 12/3@5:30 p.m., and 12/11@4:00 p.m.   - M. Akiona

CHRISTMAS WEEK (12/8-12/03) IS ALMOST HERE!

1.  Candy Grams sales will start today and continue through Dec. 2nd.  Come by E-103 during morning and lunch recess and buy a $1.00 candy gram for your friends.  Candy grams will be distributed on December 9 during 1st period.

2.  Teachers and students, please come by E-103 and sign up for an exciting obstacle course that will be held during lunch recess in the quad on Tuesday, Dec. 9.  Deadline:   Dec. 2.

3.  Sign up in E-103 for our annual Christmas Carol-oke Contest on Weds., Dec. 10, lunch recess.  Deadline:  Dec. 2.  Christmas tunes only!

4.  Chilly Willy Day is on Friday, Dec. 12.  Dress up a teacher or staff member as a penguin and compete in a penguin race. 

5.  Door Decorating Contest:  Student teams are encouraged to decorate a classroom door by Weds., Dec. 10.   Winning teams will be announced at the Christmas Rally.

YEARBOOK PICTURE TAKING FOR BOWLING TEAMS

Members of this year's bowling team (boys and girls), yearbook picture taking has been scheduled for Thursday, December 4th, 2:30 at Lilioukalani Park.  Meet at the ocean side parking lot.  Pick up order envelopes from Mrs. King (D 201) ASAP.     - P. King

CHRISTMAS WEEK - CHILLY WILLY DAY:

Chili and rice and soft drink ticket sales have begun for Friday, Dec. 12.  Come to E-103 during both recesses until Dec. 10.  Cost is $3.00.   - D. Tanabe

KSBE SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

Hawaiian Seniors who want the schedule of Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate Scholarship and Financial Aid Workshops in Hilo, Come to C 101.  KSBE has scheduled workshops from December to March for students and their parents to get help in filling out the scholarship and financial aid applications.  January 21st at 8:30am will be at WHS. :   - P.
