GENERAL

JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from the University of Washington will be GRAC on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 1:00 p.m.  UW is a large, public 4 year university located in Seattle.  Students need a minimum GPA of 3.0 and SAT V of 510 and M of 540.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

SENIOR CHRISTMAS PROGRAM PARTICIPATION NEEDED!

If you are interested in performing as part of the Senior Class Christmas Presentation, please sign up with Kody Shimabukuro or Shayna Kubojiri, or come to D204 and see Mrs. Naungayan.   This is your last chance to perform together for Christmas!  We especially need the SENIOR MEN to sign up!.   - S. MAY DAY COURT

Anyone interested in trying out for this years May Day court, please come to C101 by this Friday (10/31) to sign up and pick up an application form.  Mahalo.   - K. Kaleohano

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Come and join us in the fun this Friday.  Its Halloween. Make sure your costumes are ready, and within dress code standards.  1st recess there will be a relay race and a Halloween Idol singing contest.   You don't have to sing individually, if you want to sing with a group, thats fine.  The costume contest will be during lunch recess in the quad.  Come and sign up in B-101 to participate.    - N. CHRISTMAS PROGRAM CHAIRS AND ASSIGNED ACTS

This is an important meeting for all Christmas Program Class Chairs and Individual Acts who will be participating in the December 11, 2003, Christmas Program.  You will have a mandatory meeting on Thursday, October 30th during LUNCH RECESS.  Those who are unable to attend must see Mrs. Naungayan or Alysha Takasaki in D204 for the information packet.   - S. LIBRARY BOOK SALE

What can a nickel buy?  Holiday Craft, needlepoint and house plan magazines!  Mysteries, adventure stories, classics are

20 cents per paperback and 25 cents per hardcover book.  Please come, browse and buy!   - G. Kobayashi

JUNIORS & SENIORS

The annual College & Career Fair will be held on Thursday, November 20th at Hilo Hongwanji Sangha Hall.  All Juniors & Seniors who would like to attend must ride the bus to and from the College & Career Fair.  Bus fare is $1.50.  Permission slips are available in GRAC.  Space is limited to the first 150 students who turn in their bus fare and permission form.   - T. JOB FAIR:

Prince Kuhio Plaza will be holding a job fair on Saturday, November 1, from 9:30 a.m. till 4:00p.m.  There will be a wide variety of employers looking for prospective full and part-time employees.     - D. Tanabe

SAT REMINDER

The SAT will be held on Saturday, November 1 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. at Hilo High School.  Students who registered for SAT I should report to the Cafeteria.  Students who registered for SAT II should report to the Library.  Bring the following:  two sharpened #2 pencils, admission ticket, correction form if necessary, picture I.D., calculator.   - T. UH-HILO PRESENTATION FOR SENIORS

Jim Cromwell, Director of Admissions at UH-Hilo will be in GRAC on Tuesday, November 4th at 9:00 a.m.  Seniors interested in learning more about UH-Hilo should come to GRAC for a pass.  Space is limited to 50 students.   - T. Kawada

 

 

 

 

USC PRESENTATION

A representative from the University of Southern California will be in GRAC on Thursday, November 6th at 8:45 a.m.  USC is a private 4 year university in Los Angeles.  Students interested in attending USC require a minimum 3.0 GPA and a minimum SAT V of 600 and SAT M of 620.  Juniors & Seniors who would like to attend this presentation should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

HEALD COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS:  for seniors graduating in 2004 with a 3.0 GPA for Qtr. 1 or Sem. 1 of their Senior Year.  One Merit Scholarhip valued at $13,2000 and two Quarterly Scholarships valued at $3,600 will be awarded to a student in Hawaii County.  Deadline to apply is February 18, 2004.  Come to GRAC for more information.

BURGER KING SCHOLARS:  for high school scenior who works an average of 15 hours per week, demonstrates participation in community service, has financial need, & plans to enroll in an accredited 2 yr. or 4 yr. college, university or vocational-technical school in Fall of 2004.  Applicant must also obtain written recommendation and signature from employer.  Interested seniors should submit a personal data sheet and/or resume to Mrs. Kawada by November 14th.  One nominee will be selected from our school.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY:  for seniors who are members of the NHS and are active in school and community.  Interested students should come to GRAC for an application which are due to Mrs. Kawada on January 16, 2004.  Two senior NHS members will be selected from applicants.

UNCLAIMED REPORT CARDS

students who were absent on 10/23 can pick up their report cards at the Registrar's office.  all unclaimed ones should have been sent down to us by the pd 1 teachers.   - M. Masaki

HUGS NOT DRUGS SIGN-WAVING CAMPAIGN:

A great big hug to the students and faculty who participated in Tuesday's Hugs Not Drugs sign-waving after school.  The turnout was fantastic as we sent out a positive message to lead a healthy, drug-free lifestyle!   Thanks also to the other WHS groups who sign waved at other locations throughout our community.     - D. MR. AND MISS WINTER BALL NOMINATIONS:   

Hey Warriors!!  Nominations for Mr. & Miss Winter Ball 2003 will be held in your Period 1 class on October 31st.  Start thinking of students to nominate.  Any Freshmen, Sophmores, Juniors or Seniors can be nominated.  Student must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, no outstanding obligations and no suspensions or dress code violations.   - H. Next week is Key Club Week!  If you did not come to this week's meeting and get a schedule of Key Club Week events, pick one up in Mrs. Nakamura's room D101.  Sign-up for upcoming projects while you are there!   - K. Sato

SWIM SIGN-UP

All boys and girls interested in trying out for the swim team are to meet with coach on Thursday, October 30th at 12 noon in front of the gym.  Please be prompt.   - K. Yamase

BOY'S BASKETBALL SIGN-UPS

If you did not sign-up for boy's basketball tryouts, you may see the coaches Monday-Friday at F101.  They will be there from 4:00-5:30pm.  First day on the court will be Nov. 17th.   - K. Yamase

GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT

Packets for the Great American Smokeout were placed in your boxes.  This activity has been approved by all the Hawaii district superintendents.  They requested that a packet be distributed to each teacher in our school.   Please consider having your classes participate in this activity.  If you need more materials, or did not receive a packet, please let me know.  thanks!   - R.
