GENERAL

ACT ASSESSMENT REMINDER

The ACT will be held on Saturday, October 25 from 7:45 a.m. - 12:00 noon at the Hilo High School Cafeteria and from 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. at the Keaau High School Library.  Students should bring the following:  two sharpened #2 pencils, admission ticket, correction form if necessary, social security card and picture ID, calculator.    - T. JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from Colorado State University will be in GRAC on Friday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m.  CSU is a large, public 4 year university located in Fort Collins.  Students need a minimum combined SAT of 1000 and a 3.0 GPA.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from Linfield College will be in GRAC on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 9:15 a.m.  Linfield is a small, private 4 year liberal arts college located in the town of McMinnville.  Students need a minimum combined score of at least 1000 on their SAT and 3.0 GPA.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from Pacific University will be in GRAC on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 10:30 a.m.  Pacific is a small, private 4 year university in Forest Grove.  Students need a GPA of 3.0 or higher and SAT V of 510 & M of 520.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from the University of Washington will be GRAC on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 1:00 p.m.  UW is a large, public 4 year university located in Seattle.  Students need a minimum GPA of 3.0 and SAT V of 510 and M of 540.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

"HARMONY BEGINS AT HOME", POSTER CONTEST

Win prizes and awards!  Enter the "Harmony Begins at Home" poster contest sponsored by the Bay Clinic's Healthy Intentions Project and Planet Puna Domestic Harmony Project.  You need to submit a poster of a happy family, or a picture of what domestic viloence does to a family.  Deadline for submission is Nov. 3, 2003.  Please see Mrs. Yamanaka in U102 for additional contest specifics.   - R. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

SAMOAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND:  for seniors planning to enroll full-time at any University of Hawaii Campus.  Applicants need a minimum 2.5 GPA & evidence of special accomplishments, community activities & educational plants.  Scholarship of up to $500 is awarded per year & is open to all, but Samoan students are especially encouraged to apply.  Come to GRAC for application.

AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION OF HAWAII YOUTH AWARD: for high school seniors who took action to promote civil liberties between 12/15/02 - 12/15/03.  Students may be eligible for a $1,000 award or one of two $500 awards.  Come to GRAC for more information.

GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS: for African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American seniors.  Applicants must have a miminum cumulative GPA of 3.3, have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, & meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.  Deadline is January 16, 2004.  Come to GRAC for more information.

HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATION SCHOLARSHIP: offers 75% tuition scholarship for students who plan to pursue a career in a communication industry at HPU.  Come to GRAC for more information.   - T. Kawada

RED RIBBON WEEK:

Wear red on Monday and kick-off Red Ribbon Week, a national event promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.   On Tuesday, Hugs Not Drugs Day, bring an old stuffed animal in good condition to E-103.  These stuffed animals will be distributed to children whose lives have been affected by drug use in their families.  A drug-free sign-waving campaign on our campus will follow from 2:15 - 3:00 pm.  Create your own signs with drug-free messages and join us in the fight for a drug-free lifestyle.     - D. Don't forget to write your evaluations of your activity as well as fill in the service points papers for members of your committee.  Paperwork is due in the next two weeks.   - C. Ray

Boo with Halloween!  Christmas is around the corner!  We are seeking animated dancers for the christmas program.  If you're jolly, please attend the meeting on Friday, October 24 at morning recess in R101.  You can also sign-up with chair Stacy Ruegilin or Mrs. Yanagisawa.   - P. Yanagisawa

HALLOWEEN DAY

Halloween is already next week Friday.  We have a whole day planned with fun activities. Please come to B-101 and sign up for the relay race and Halloween Idol siging contest.  Don't forget, there will also be a Costume contest!   - N. Ballo

KEY CLUBBERS

We need 7-10 members to sign-up for Veterans' Cemetery curb painting project this Sunday (10/26) with the Builder's Club members.  Sign-up at D101; if anyone is willing to chair this project, see Mrs. Sato or Trace.   - K. Sato
