WINTER BALL COMMITTEE

JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from the University of Portland will be in GRAC on Tuesday, October 21 at 8:45 a.m.  University of Portland is a small, private 4 year university.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from Hawaii Pacific University will be in GRAC on Thursday, October 23 at 12:45 p.m. HPU is a private 4 year university and liberal arts college in Honolulu.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from Colorado State University will be in GRAC on Friday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m.  CSU is a large, public 4 year university located in Fort Collins.  Students need a minimum combined SAT of 1000 and a 3.0 GPA.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

ASVAB TESTING

Reminder to students who signed up for the ASVAB:  please report to the library promptly at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, October 23rd.  Students should bring their pass with them. Testing will be during pd. 1, morning recess and pd. 3.     - T. Kawada

"HARMONY BEGINS AT HOME", POSTER CONTEST

Win prizes and awards!  Enter the "Harmony Begins at Home" poster contest sponsored by the Bay Clinic's Healthy Intentions Project and Planet Puna Domestic Harmony Project.  You need to submit a poster of a happy family, or a picture of what domestic viloence does to a family.  Deadline for submission is Nov. 3, 2003.  Please see Mrs. Yamanaka in U102 for additional contest specifics.   - R. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

SAMOAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND:  for seniors planning to enroll full-time at any University of Hawaii Campus.  Applicants need a minimum 2.5 GPA & evidence of special accomplishments, community activities & educational plants.  Scholarship of up to $500 is awarded per year & is open to all, but Samoan students are especially encouraged to apply.  Come to GRAC for application.

AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION OF HAWAII YOUTH AWARD: for high school seniors who took action to promote civil liberties between 12/15/02 - 12/15/03.  Students may be eligible for a $1,000 award or one of two $500 awards.  Come to GRAC for more information.

GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS: for African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American seniors.  Applicants must have a miminum cumulative GPA of 3.3, have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, & meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.  Deadline is January 16, 2004.  Come to GRAC for more information.

HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATION SCHOLARSHIP: offers 75% tuition scholarship for students who plan to pursue a career in a communication industry at HPU.  Come to GRAC for more information.   - T. Kawada

GRAD NITE AT DISNEYLAND

Any senior interested in fundraising, there will be a meeting at GRAC during lunch on Friday, October 24.  Please bring or send in your $100 deposit if you have not yet.  You need to turn in your deposit if you want to fundraise.     - C. Shibata/T. Kawada

SENIORS

Don't forget.  Bring your cap & gown and accessory orders to the Assembly at the cafeteria on Wednesday, Oct. 22.  You will be excused from your 6th period classes at 12:30 and expected to stay in the cafeteria until the end of the period.  Commencement committee members  and the Balfour Representative, Mr. Goo will be available to answer your questions and/or concerns regarding orders.  If you did not receive an ordering packet from you senior english teacher or if you would like information on class ring orders, please see Ms. Kruse in B-203.  Mahalo.   - J. GRAPHIC NOVELS

Your library has just purchased a few graphic novels or Manga titles: Fushigi yugi,  Love Hina and Chobits.  Come and check these out or suggest other titles you might want to read.  If their is interest, we can certainly purchase more.   - G. Kobayashi

SATURDAY SCHOOL

SPORTS

GIRL'S GOLF SIGN-UPS

All girls interested in trying out for the golf team are to meet at the gym on Wednesday, Oct. 22nd  at 11:45 to sign up with Mr. Yamase.  Please be prompt.   - K. Yamase

BIIF VOLLEYBALL:

Come and support our volleyball varsity teams TONIGHT as they play in their final home games of the season against Christian Liberty.     - D. Tanabe

NHS SENIOR MEMBERS

SENIOR COMMENCEMENT ACCESSORIES SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING

WAIAKEA SFF CREDIT UNION

The Waiakea SFF (Student, Faculty & Family) Credit Union will be opening in early December.  Our original handout (distributed at the PTSA meeting and in your boxes) stated services will be available from October 17.  Sorry, due to the late arrival of the ATM, Vaut, Equipment and Furniture, the credit union will opening in December.  Please inform your students (if they are interested).  Thank you.   - S. SENIORS

The Commencement Cap & Gown Ordering Assembly will be held this Wednesday, Oct. 22 during period 6.  Students will be dismissed at 12:30 to attend the assembly at the WHS cafeteria, and will be expected to stay there until the end of the school day.  Teachers of 6th period senior classes, please assist with chaperoning duties at the assembly.  Mahalo.   - J.
