JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from Whitman College will be in GRAC on Monday, October 20 at 1:25 p.m.  Whitman is a small, private 4 year liberal arts college in Walla Walla, Washington.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

A representative from the University of Portland will be in GRAC on Tuesday, October 21 at 8:45 a.m.  University of Portland is a small, private 4 year university.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from Hawaii Pacific University will be in GRAC on Thursday, October 23 at 12:45 p.m. HPU is a private 4 year university and liberal arts college in Honolulu.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

JUNIORS & SENIORS

A representative from Colorado State University will be in GRAC on Friday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m.  CSU is a large, public 4 year university located in Fort Collins.  Students need a minimum combined SAT of 1000 and a 3.0 GPA.  Interested students should come to GRAC for a pass.   - T. Kawada

ASVAB TESTING

Reminder to students who signed up for the ASVAB:  please report to the library promptly at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, October 23rd.  Students should bring their pass with them. Testing will be during pd. 1, morning recess and pd. 3.     - T. Kawada

MENU CHANGE

"HARMONY BEGINS AT HOME", POSTER CONTEST

Win prizes and awards!  Enter the "Harmony Begins at Home" poster contest sponsored by the Bay Clinic's Healthy Intentions Project and Planet Puna Domestic Harmony Project.  You need to submit a poster of a happy family, or a picture of what domestic viloence does to a family.  Deadline for submission is Nov. 3, 2003.  Please see Mrs. Yamanaka in U102 for additional contest specifics.   - R. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

SAMOAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND:  for seniors planning to enroll full-time at any University of Hawaii Campus.  Applicants need a minimum 2.5 GPA & evidence of special accomplishments, community activities & educational plants.  Scholarship of up to $500 is awarded per year & is open to all, but Samoan students are especially encouraged to apply.  Come to GRAC for application.

AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION OF HAWAII YOUTH AWARD: for high school seniors who took action to promote civil liberties between 12/15/02 - 12/15/03.  Students may be eligible for a $1,000 award or one of two $500 awards.  Come to GRAC for more information.

GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS: for African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American seniors.  Applicants must have a miminum cumulative GPA of 3.3, have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, & meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.  Deadline is January 16, 2004.  Come to GRAC for more information.

HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATION SCHOLARSHIP: offers 75% tuition scholarship for students who plan to pursue a career in a communication industry at HPU.  Come to GRAC for more information.   - T. Kawada

SCBM MEETING

this month's mtg is on Oct 21st, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at GRAC, main admin bldg, 2nd floor.  items on the agenda:  school inspection, DOE's high school redesign and waiver requests.  open to the public.   - M. Masaki for bob hill

HALLOWEEN DANCE:

The Halloween dance has been cancelled due to non-interest.   Please come to E-103 during morning recess for your refund.  Canned goods will be kept for our school's canned good drive.   - D. Tanabe

 

 

SPORTS

BOY'S BASKETBALL SIGN-UPS

All boys interested in trying out for the basketball team are to meet at the gym on Monday, Oct. 20th at 12:00 to sign-up.  Please be prompt.   - K. Yamase

UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII RAINBOWS WINTER BASEBALL CAMP

UH Baseball Coach Mike Trapasso & his coaching staff will hold three camps in December (22-23, 27-28, 29-30) designed to improve pitching, catching & hitting.  Interested students should come to GRAC for more information or application form.   - T. Kawada

GIRL'S GOLF SIGN-UPS

All girls interested in trying out for the golf team are to meet at the gym on Wednesday, Oct. 22nd  at 11:45 to sign up with Mr. Yamase.  Please be prompt.   - K. Yamase

 

 

MEETINGS

MAY DAY MEETING

There will be a mandatory May Day meeting for all those interested in participating in this year's program.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, October 23 during lunch recess in room C102.  Please see Pua or Malama in C101 if you are unable to attend.   - K. Kaleohano

HAWAII SCHOOL HEALTH SURVEY

REMINDER: Each PERIOD 1 teacher should have received a white envelope containing the surveys needed for TUESDAY, OCTOBER 21st.  Please double check your roster before handing out surveys to assure the students have permission to participate.  If students do not have parent permission to participate, they need to take the Health Education Standards & PE Standards Survey (white survey).  Please call me at ext. 269 or lotus me if you have questions.  Thanks much.   - T. HAWAIIAN AGENCY FAIR

Please announce and post the flyer that was put in your box on Friday.  there will be 20+ agencies with information on scholarships for Hawaiians and post secondary Hawaiian Studies and Ag programs at UH Hilo.  Encourage all of your juniors and seniors to bring their parents.  Refreshments will be served.   - P.De Morales
