GENERAL

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL:

Attendance will be counted on the last day of school.  The periods are 1, 2, 3, 4, followed by the mass Awards Assembly.  See your teacher for the schedule.  This Saturday is the last Saturday school.  Make sure you attend if you have 5 or more absences! - D. Tanabe

MEMORIAL DAY LEIS:

will be accepted in room E-103 on Weds.  May 26.  If you make 15 leis, you will receive a special treat sponsored by SGA. (One treat per person...limited supply)  Also, the leis will be credited to your class count.   Leis must be 20-24 inches before tying.  All leis must be tied.  Please use "strong" flowers or ti-leaves.   - D. FREE BOOKS!  LAST CHANCE.

Please come and browse and help yourself to any of the remaining discarded and

gift books from the library.  The more you take, the less I'll have to take to the

public library's book sale.  - G. Kobayashi

NHS OFFICERS FOR 2004-05 SCHOOL YEAR:

The following students have been elected officers for next school year.  President - Elizabeth Brauher; Vice President - Rachel Kaneta; Secretary - Lezli Kubo; Treasurer:  Michelle Lopez.  The Induction Ceremony Chairpersons are Tiffany Chang and Ariane Jardine-Namba. WHO'S STEALING OUR NEWSPAPERS?

Several copies of the Hawaii Tribune-Herald have been missing from the bundle outside the library several days this week.

Teachers have paid for their subscriptions.  The newspapers are not free for anybody to take. - G. Kobayashi

4TH QUARTER DEADLINE - ATTENDANCE

As a reminder, a doctor's note does not automatically excuse an absence from school.  Only Column B type absences will be excused.  Make it a practice to turn in requests to excuse COLUMN B absences promptly after your return.  Do not wait until the last week of school to turn in notes as it may be unexcusable (Column A).  Deadline to turn in notes for the 4th quarter is 6/3 for Seniors and 6/8 for all others.  See the Attendance Coordinator if you have any questions - M. SENIOR ANNOUNCEMENTS

SENIORS:  SIGN UP FOR FRIDAY'S SMOOTHIE DRINKING CONTEST.  LIST IS IN E103.  CONTEST IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 20 PEOPLE WHO SIGN UP!    - S. Naungayan

SENIOR AWARDS:

Senior Awards Night will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. at the school cafeteria.  All Seniors are invited to attend this last event of camaraderie before Commencement.  Sunday's Best Attire is requested.  Numerous scholarships and awards will be announced at this time. - D. DECA STORE WILL BE CLOSING FOR THE YEAR

The DECA Store will be closing on May 20th (or until products are depleted from inventory).  Thank you to those who have supported the store throughout this school year.  Look for our new products for the upcoming school year:  yogurt, hot cereal and more lean pockets.  Have a great remainder of the year and Congratulations to all seniors! - S. WAIAKEA ATHLETIC AWARDS NIGHT

All athletes and their parents are invited to attend the annual Athletic Awards night to be held on Thursday, May 27th starting at 7:00pm in the gym.  JV and Varsity athletes of all sports will be honored with awards.  Athletes are encouraged to wear team shirts if possible. - K. Yamase

SOPHOMORES

Sophomores, we need your help with Commencement Clean Up, which will take place immediately after the ceremonies on June 5th from 8:30-11:00 p.m.  Sign up with Mara Oda, Annie Lung or Mrs. King.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. King (D 201) ASAP. - P. King

YEARBOOK DISTRIBUTION

Yearbooks will be distributed this Friday (5/21) in D-201 at the following times:  Seniors-before school (7:30-8:10), Juniors-morning recess, Sophomores-lunch, Freshmen-after school (2:01-2:30).  Students must clear any obligations (library, cafeteria, registrar's office, etc.) to receive their book.  Extra yearbooks will be sold (Seniors-before school, Juniors-recess, etc.) for $45 (CASH ONLY) to students without any obligations.  Yearbooks not picked up on Friday may be picked up next week during morning and lunch recess ONLY.  (Faculty:  your yearbooks will be delivered during periods 3 & 5 on Friday.)  As a reminder, students should NOT be signing yearbooks during class time, failure to adhere to this policy may result in disciplinary action. - P. HILO JAYCEES SCHOLARSHIP

Available to seniors accepted to either Hawaii Community College, UH-Hilo or UH-Manoa.  Statement of Community Involvement, statement of need, three letters of recommendation & transcript required.  Preference given to children of Hilo Jaycees Members or Roosters.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $500.00.  Deadline:  Postmarked by June 1st. - T. BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY

Anyone interested in trying out for the boys' x-country team (fall 2004) should attend an informational meeting and sign-up on Tuesday, May 25 in E-204.  Meeting will begin promptly at 12:15 p.m.   See Coach Joseph if unable to attend. - W. Joseph

ATTENDANCE

Please continue to remind your students about attendance requirements.  Students should be notified of their attendance record on a weekly basis.  Last Saturday School of the year is this Saturday, 5/22. SUMMER STORAGE

Because the library's carpet is being replaced over the summer, please do not send us discarded textbooks until the beginning of next

school year.  Also, do not send televisions and other audiovisual equipment for storage.  We are in the process of emptying our bookshelves

and furniture that needs to be moved.  Lock up your VCRs in cabinets and closets in your classrooms.  Thank you. - G. Kobayashi
