GENERAL

KALUA PORK PLATE

There are approximately 44 pre-sale plates and 19 tubs remaining.  If you would like to purchase a ticket come to P-18 or see Mrs. Kotaki (U-302.)  Depending upon "availability," plates will be sold for $6.00 on May Day, after all pre-sale tickets have been honored.  Mahalo for supporting Pihana Na Mamo. - D. PIHANA NA MAMO

We are preparing the kalua pork this Friday in Mrs. Woo's room (I-102) @ 3:00 p.m.  Please bring your defrosted pork butts at that time.  Participation is mandatory. - D. Kotaki

MAY DAY PRACTICE

All Hawaiian Language students and Pihana Na Mamo members, there will be a mandatory practice during morning recess on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 in room C102.  Please be prompt.  Mahalo. - K. Kaleohano

USED BOOK SALE!

Paperbacks, 6 for $1.00 or 20 cents each; hardcovers 5 for $1.00 or 25 cents each.  Library books are being heavily weeded to get ready for the new carpet.  New books for sale will be added daily.  Come, browse and buy.   Mostly non-fiction for now. - G. Kobayashi

2004 TESORO HAWAII DRIVER EXCELLENCE COMPETITION

Congratulations to Toby Yamashiro for placing 2nd in the Driver Excellence competition held in Honolulu on April 24.  In the team competition, Toby and Owen Takei placed third.  Congratulations to both of you.  You two represented Waiakea High School proudly. - W. Yamauchi

PROJECT GRAD 2004

Registration forms were mailed out recently and senior parents should be receiving, or have already received, them (2 sheets - 1 red & 1 white).  All who register will receive one extra Commencement ticket!  Early registration deadline is May 14, 2004, to have your name put in a drawing for a special grand prize, and to receive an exclusive, student-designed Project Grad 2004 T-shirt.  Final absolute deadline is June 2, 2004.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Sato in Q-201.   - K. JUNIORS & SOPHOMORES

The Commencement Committee is recruiting students interested in the job of ushering at the Commencement Ceremony, Saturday, June 5th.  Please sign up with Ms. Kruse at B-203 right away, if interested.  Students taking the SAT on June 5th would not be able to participate, as you will need to be available to attend the Commencement practice on the morning of June 5th.  Mahalo. - J. NHS MEMBERS

There will be a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, April 27, during lunch recess in rm B-101.  We will be setting up reading dates for ROAR, sign-ups for May Day (May 3) clean-up of the gym and nomination for next year's officers.  Please see Mrs. Nekoba if you are unable to attend.   - J. Nekoba

SENIORS

The first senior song practice is for girls only on Wednesday, April 28 at the WHS gym.  Song practice packets were distributed through senior English classes.  If you have not yet received a packet, please see your English teacher.  You need to fill out a ticket with your name and circle the date of practice to enter and receive credit for attending song practice.  If you have lost or forgotten your ticket, you may purchase a replacement ticket for $0.25 from Ms. Kruse at B-203.  Remember to bring the lyrics sheet for the class song (given out with cap & gown orders).  Be prompt.  Doors will be closing at 2 pm.  Late comers will not be allowed to attend practice.  Any questions, see Ms. Kruse.  Mahalo. - J. BOYS BASEBALL/GIRLS SOFTBALL

All boys interested in the RBI Baseball League, sign up with Mr. Yamauchi during morning and lunch recess in F103.

YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY

Youth Challenge Academy will do an orientation for any interested students/faculty in GRAC on Tuesday, 4/27, at 10:30 a.m.

Youth Challenge Academy targets at-risk ("at-promise") high school students between the ages of 16 -18.  Mission: "To establish a comprehensive intervention program to assist students based on National Guard & DOE requirements.  Objectives: "To provide students the opportunity to satisfactorily complete the Competency-Based High School Equivalecy Diploma Program.  To provide students the opportunity to earn credits to be mainstreamed back to their home school to earn a high school diploma". Please refer interested/appropriate students.  The next class will be admitted on 7/21/04 and is only conducted twice annually. - J. Ching

CO-ED SOCCER LEAGUE FOR ADULTS
