ASTRODAY

Check out ASTRODAY this Saturday, April 24th, at the Prince Kuhio Plaza from 10am-5pm.  This 3rd annual event hopes to "Bring Astronomy to the People" in a big way!

COMMENCEMENT DECORATION

Anyone interested in helping with making commencement decorations come to a meeting in U101 Friday 4/23 during lunch recess. - L. Takahashi

SENIORS

The first senior song practice is for girls only on Wednesday, April 28 at the WHS gym.  Song practice packets were distributed through senior English classes.  If you have not yet received a packet, please see your English teacher.  You need to fill out a ticket with your name and circle the date of practice to enter and receive credit for attending song practice.  If you have lost or forgotten your ticket, you may purchase a replacement ticket for $0.25 from Ms. Kruse at B-203.  Remember to bring the lyrics sheet for the class song (given out with cap & gown orders).  Be prompt.  Doors will be closing at 2 pm.  Late comers will not be allowed to attend practice.  Any questions, see Ms. Kruse.  Mahalo. - J. BOYS BASEBALL/GIRLS SOFTBALL

All boys interested in the RBI Baseball League, sign up with Mr. Yamauchi during morning and lunch recess in F103.

STATE EMPLOYEES FOOD DRIVE - APRIL 19-30, 2004

The annual food drive is an opportunity for us to pull together as a community and help one another.  Many of those helped by the food banks on all islands are children -our students-and their families.  Your donation of 10 pounds of food or $10 helps feed 118,000 people in Hawaii each week, including 62,000 children.  Please encourage WHS students to contribute also.  DOE goal is 30,000 units (pounds plus dollars).  Monetary donations  (checks only , payable to Hawaii Island Food Bank) and food donations can be turned in to the school office.  Mahalo for your support! - F. SATURDAY SCHOOL

The 3rd of 5 Saturday Schools this semester will be held this Saturday, 4/24, at WHS Cafeteria.  Check with each of your teachers for your actual absence dates.  Know the classes for which you need to earn Saturday School credits.  Must be in line by 8:00 a.m.-NO LATE ENTRY; have a valid ID; dress standards apply; bring work to do. - M. NO PARKING AREAS

Students are not allowed to park in the Staff Parking Area adjacent to the Student Parking Lot.  This area is marked clearly with "Staff Parking Only" and fronts the Industrial Arts Classrooms (J-Bldg.).  Another "No Parking Area" is on the "Hamakua end"(North) of the Student Parking Lot.  This area is reserved for the Construction crew working on R-Bldg..  Heavy equipment, building supplies and tools are constantly being loaded/unloaded and moved in this area.  If your vehicle is damaged while parked in this area, the construction company and/or WHS will not be liable.  Vehicles parked in these areas will be warned once and towed away the second. License numbers of illegally parked vehicles have been recorded. - S. Ozaki

ALL SOPHOMORES!  The deadline for turning in your t-shirt orders has been extended until Friday, April 23, 2004!  Please show your spirit and support our class!  The design features wonderful artwork provided by fellow sopohomores.  T-shirts are going for $14.00 pre-sale, so come and drop your order form and payment to Jon Yu or Mrs. Uyeda by the 23rd.  This is your last chance until our Senior year! - K. YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY

Youth Challenge Academy will do an orientation for any interested students/faculty in GRAC on Tuesday, 4/27, at 10:30 a.m.

Youth Challenge Academy targets at-risk ("at-promise") high school students between the ages of 16 -18.  Mission: "To establish a comprehensive intervention program to assist students based on National Guard & DOE requirements.  Objectives: "To provide students the opportunity to satisfactorily complete the Competency-Based High School Equivalecy Diploma Program.  To provide students the opportunity to earn credits to be mainstreamed back to their home school to earn a high school diploma". Please refer interested/appropriate students.  The next class will be admitted on 7/21/04 and is only conducted twice annually. - J. Ching
