LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE FOR STUDENTS OF FILIPINO ANCESTRY

Applications for the Sulong Conference @ UH Hilo are due today to Mr. Calina in P-18 by First Recess.  The conference is this Thursday and is sponsored by Upward Bound, Sariling Gawa Youth Council and the University of Hawai'i at Hilo Minority Access Program. - D. Kotaki

JUNIOR CLASS RUMMAGE SALE AND KEIKI KARNIVAL

Mahalo to all the juniors who worked so hard to make our class rummage sale and keiki karnival a huge success.    Special mahalo to Ashley Asano and Mrs. Okuna, chairperson and advisor for the rummage sale;  Kacie Miura and Mrs. Bright-Poai, chairperson and adivor for the keiki karnival;  Johnny Lombardi, chairperson for the food concession;  but most of all, mahalo to all the teachers and staff who donated items for the rummage sale.  - M. BARNEY FUJIMOTO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  for any seniors planning to enroll at any of the University of Hawaii campuses.  Resume, essay, photo & transcript required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $1,000.  Deadline:  April 30th.

FRIENDS OF THE PANA'EWA ZOO:  for seniors who intend to pursue a degree in one of the life sciences (zoology, biology, botany, physical anthropology, etc.).  Transcript, personal essay, 1,000-1,500 word essay, two letters of recommendation required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $500.  Deadline:  April 30th.  - T. 'AHA 'ÖPIO O OHA SUMMER YOUTH LEGISLATURE

Any juniors of Hawaiian ancestry interested in writing laws and attending a one-week legislative session at the state capital from June 27-July 2, 2004, come to C 101 for an application.  Apps are due on Friday, April 16, 2004.  There is no cost for this once-in-a-lifetime experience and you will stay at the UH dorms. - P. SUMMER SCHOOL TUITION WAIVERS FOR HAWAIIANS

Are you a Native Hawaiian Student looking to attend a DOE summer school this summer?  Want to know how you can receive a summer school tuition waiver?  Applications are due May 07, 2004 therefore for more information or to get an application, come to C 101 ASAP for the application.  Or feel free to call Darylyn Alameda at Alu Like at 961-2625.    - P. SATURDAY SCHOOL

The 2nd of 5 Saturday Schools this semester is today - Wednesday, April 7 - from 2:00-6:00 pm at the cafeteria.  You must be in line by 2pm to be admitted.  Absolutely no late entry.  Dress standards apply.  Bring work to do.  Must have a valid picture ID - M. Yamashita

SOPHOMORE CLASS T-SHIRT

Hey Sophomores!  Our class t-shirt is back by popular demand!  Order forms are being distributed through your English classes.  If you do not receive one, pick one up from Mrs. Uyeda in C-204.  Form and payment are due to Jon Yu or Mrs. Uyeda by Thursday, April 8th!  Cost is $14 for sizes S, M, L, XL, $15 for XXL and up.  This is the LAST TIME class shirts will be sold until our senior year!  The design is modified to include Waiakea High School.  Show your class spirit and order while you still can!  Shirts bought after the presale will cost a dollar more. - K. HAWAII ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS:  for seniors with the goal of pursuing a career in broadcasting in Hawaii.  Applications available on-line at www.hawaiibroadcasters.com.  Letter of recommendation should be sent along with the application as an attachment.  More information available in GRAC.   Deadline:  April 16th.

HAWAII KOREAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:  for seniors with 50% or more Korean ancestry, who are residents of Hawaii & enrolling full-time in an accredited 4 year college in fall of 2004.  Personal essay & two letters of recommendation required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  3 - $1,000 awards.  Deadline:  June 1st.

UH-MANOA COLLEGE OF TROPICAL AGRICULTURE & HUMAN RESOURCES:  for seniors intending to major inCTAHR programs.  Essay required.  Applications & more information available in GRAC.  Value:  10 - $2,000 scholarships.  Deadline:  May 15th. - T. Kawada

Leo club members interested in running for an office for next school year, come to B102 and sign up by Thursday.  Also, next Tuesday's meeting is mandatory. - J. Hosaka

PIHANA MEETING

The monthly meeting is today in P-18 during first recess.  We will be discussing Merrie Monarch, Honolulu Trip payments and May Day.  Those of you attending the Sulong Conference must turn-in forms to Mr. Calina today, first recess only.  - D. Kotaki

SULONG CONFERENCE

The Pihana Na Mamo program was allotted 15 spots this past Tuesday to the Sulong Conference @ UHH on Thursday, March 8.  The conference is for students of whole or part-Filipino ancestry.  The conference is sponsored by Upward Bound, The University of Hawai'i at Hilo Minority Access program and the Sariling Gawa Youth Council.  The conference aims to familiarize and recruit students for post-secondary education.  If one of your students is allotted one of the spots, please allow them to attend...IF they have completed all assignments for your class.  Please see Mr. Calina or Mrs. Kotaki for more information. - D. Testing will be during Pd. 1 today.  Please send gr. 10 students to the cafeteria after taking attendance.  Teachers who do not have a class during pd. 1, your assistance in the cafeteria would be greatly appreciated. - T. Kawada
