LIBRARY BOOK VANDALISM

I am sad/angry by the action of a student who ripped out the entire article about Charles Dickens from Notable British Authors, the best reference we have on authors.  Neither the public or university libraries have this title.  To replace the entire set will cost $180 plus shipping.  To replace one volume will cost around $75.00.  How thoughtless of this student to remove this  valuable reference from all.   Along with this vandalism, we also discovered a book on plants which had the page of the marijuana article ripped out.  This type of behavior will not be tolerated.  Any suggestions on what the Library can do to prevent this from recurring? - G. Kobayashi

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Waiakea High School has been identified by the State Civil Defense as a designated shelter.  Should a severe weather event, such as a hurricane, threaten the islands, the gym would provide a safe place for residents to ride out the storm, and also provide for a short term residence in the event their homes are damaged or destroyed.  The Red Cross has been assigned the responsibility of managing these shelters.  If you would like to be a volunteer in managing our school's shelter or want more info contact me at 974-4888 ext. 232.   - S.
