GENERAL

WAIAKEA COMPLEX PROCEDURES

WHS Students are reminded to obey the following procedures when using the other Waiakea Schools property:  1. Obtain a Complex pass if you travel through the other schools boundaries.  2. Keep away from all buildings  3. Use only the roadways to travel through their property.  4. Follow their rules i.e. No Hats, no loitering and no profanity.  If you refuse to follow these rules then you will be issued a "No Trespass Notice" and HPD will get involved.   - S. Ozaki

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

HAWAII COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY:  for seniors from East Hawaii who intend to pursue a career in the healing arts.   Copy of FAFSA & two letters of reference required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  3 - $1,000 scholarships.  Deadline:  April 2nd.

KTA/BIIF SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP:  for seniors attending a high school in the BIIB & participating in BIIF sports.  Athletic achievement, academic record, community service considered.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $1,000.  Deadline:  receipt by May 3rd. 

DAVID S. ISHII FOUNDATION:  for seniors who are an active member of a high school golf team.  Financial need may be considered.  Short essay required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  4 - $2,000 grants (2 female & 2 male).  Deadline:  May 1st.

SOCIETY OF THE FRIENDLY SONS OF SAINT PATRICK OF HAWAII:  for seniors who are US citizens & residents of Hawaii.  Scholastic achievement, financial need & extra-curricular activities considered.  Two letters of reference required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  up to $1,500.  Deadline:  April 30th.

MORE SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

JACK & OTOME MIYASHIRO:  for seniors whose parent or legal guardian is a resident of the County of Hawaii.  Two letters of recommendation  & two essays required.  Extra-curricular activities considered.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $2,000.  Deadline:  April 16th.

ALOHA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP FUND:  for seniors whose parent is a member of any Uniformed Service of the US, living in Hawaii & enrolling at an institution in Hawaii, or any child or grandchild of a member of the Aloha Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).  Applications available in GRAC.  Value: $1,000.  Deadline:  receipt by April 30th.

KOREAN UNIVERSITY CLUB:  for seniors who are a resident of Hawaii, a US citizen & at least part Korean.  Applicant must demonstrate financial need and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university in Hawaii.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  1 - four year scholarship.  Deadline:  April 10th. - T. MAY DAY ENTERTAINMENT

Anyone interested in performing for May Day (music/hula), please come to an informational meeting on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at morning recess in room C102.  We will be discussing and signing up for audition times.  Mahalo - K. Kaleohano

THIRD QUARTER EXEMPT NOTICES

All notes to excuse "Column B" type absences must be turned in to the Attendance Coordinator by Friday, March 19.  No exceptions.  Make it a practice to turn in requests for Column B absences promptly after your return. - M. Yamashita

SATURDAY SCHOOL  

The 1st of 5 Saturday Schools this semester will be held this Saturday, 3/13, at WHS Cafeteria.  Check with each of your teachers for your actual absence dates.  Know the classes for which you need to earn Saturday School credits.  Must be in line by 8:00 a.m.-NO LATE ENTRY; have a valid ID; dress standards apply; bring work to do. - M. SAT PREP WORKSHOP

The last day to sign up for the SAT Prep Workshop is Friday, March 12, 2004.  Please stop by C101 ASAP to sign up.  This workshop is designed to help you prepare for the upcoming tests.  Cost for the workshop is $17.00.  Mahalo - K. Kaleohano

ATTENTION UNDERCLASSMEN

Anyone interested in auditioning for the position of emcee for Commencement 2004, please see Ms. Kruse at B-203 to sign up at now through March 17.  Auditions will be held when we return from spring break.  Commencement is on Saturday, June 5.   - J. Kruse

DECA STORE WILL BE CLOSING

The DECA Store will be open as long as products are available.  We will be ordering more products when we return from Spring Break.  Thank you for your support. - S. Kojima

STUDENTS:

Next school year (2004-05), a Driver's Ed class will be scheduled during the early morning hours of 7:15 a to 8:05 a, four days a week, for both semesters.  This morning class is open to all students who have registered for the course as well as to students who did not register due to having schedule conflicts during the school day.  Interested students may see Mrs. Nekoba in the Registrar's office to sign up.  Deadline is March 17. - J. HAWAIIAN CLUB

MATH LEAGUE

Practices for Meet #5 will begin on Tuesday, March 9, and continue to Thursday, March 18.  Practices will be afterschool in room U203 everyday except Wednesdays.  Mandatory practice will on Monday, April 5.  Meet #5 will be on Wednesday, April 7, at Honoka'a High School.  Please pick up permission form from U203 and pay your bus fare if you are going to the last meet. - C. STUDENT PASSES

When sending students to the library, please write one pass per student and sign the pass with your entire last name and time on the pass.  Also, please remind your substitutes to put your name on the pass.  We return all passes to your box and are spending an incredible amount of time deciphering your initals and handwriting.  Thank you for your help. - G.
