GENERAL

WAIAKEA COMPLEX PROCEDURES

WHS Students are reminded to obey the following procedures when using the other Waiakea Schools property:  1. Obtain a Complex pass if you travel through the other schools boundaries.  2. Keep away from all buildings  3. Use only the roadways to travel through their property.  4. Follow their rules i.e. No Hats, no loitering and no profanity.  If you refuse to follow these rules then you will be issued a "No Trespass Notice" and HPD will get involved.   - S. Ozaki

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

HAWAII COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY:  for seniors from East Hawaii who intend to pursue a career in the healing arts.   Copy of FAFSA & two letters of reference required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  3 - $1,000 scholarships.  Deadline:  April 2nd.

KTA/BIIF SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP:  for seniors attending a high school in the BIIB & participating in BIIF sports.  Athletic achievement, academic record, community service considered.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $1,000.  Deadline:  receipt by May 3rd. 

DAVID S. ISHII FOUNDATION:  for seniors who are an active member of a high school golf team.  Financial need may be considered.  Short essay required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  4 - $2,000 grants (2 female & 2 male).  Deadline:  May 1st.

SOCIETY OF THE FRIENDLY SONS OF SAINT PATRICK OF HAWAII:  for seniors who are US citizens & residents of Hawaii.  Scholastic achievement, financial need & extra-curricular activities considered.  Two letters of reference required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  up to $1,500.  Deadline:  April 30th. - T. MORE SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

JACK & OTOME MIYASHIRO:  for seniors whose parent or legal guardian is a resident of the County of Hawaii.  Two letters of recommendation  & two essays required.  Extra-curricular activities considered.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $2,000.  Deadline:  April 16th.

ALOHA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP FUND:  for seniors whose parent is a member of any Uniformed Service of the US, living in Hawaii & enrolling at an institution in Hawaii, or any child or grandchild of a member of the Aloha Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).  Applications available in GRAC.  Value: $1,000.  Deadline:  receipt by April 30th.

KOREAN UNIVERSITY CLUB:  for seniors who are a resident of Hawaii, a US citizen & at least part Korean.  Applicant must demonstrate financial need and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university in Hawaii.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  1 - four year scholarship.  Deadline:  April 10th. - T. MAY DAY ENTERTAINMENT

Anyone interested in performing for May Day (music/hula), please come to an informational meeting on Thursday, March 11, 2004 at morning recess in room C102.  We will be discussing and signing up for audition times.  Mahalo - K. Kaleohano

SATURDAY SCHOOL  

The 1st of 5 Saturday Schools this semester will be held this Saturday, 3/13, at WHS Cafeteria.  Check with each of your teachers for your actual absence dates.  Know the classes for which you need to earn Saturday School credits.  Must be in line by 8:00 a.m.-NO LATE ENTRY; have a valid ID; dress standards apply; bring work to do. - M. CAFETERIA OBLIGATIONS

As of today, there is over $1400 outstanding for cafeteria accounts. Oustanding accounts are considered an obligation; all obligations must be cleared in order to participate in SGA or class activities. Payments may be placed in the drop box in the cafeteria.  - M. Yamashita

SOPHOMORE CLASS NEWSLETTERS -  

The March edition of the Tiger Times is being distributed through your sophomore English classes.  See Mrs. Uyeda in C-204 if you did not receive your copy. - K. Uyeda

JAGUAR COUNTRY FAIR

The Class of 2005 will be hosting their JAGUAR COUNTRY FAIR on March 20 from 10am-2pm at the WHS cafeteria.  There will be a rummage sale, keiki carnival, food, live entertainment, and an ice-cream eating contest sponsored by Living in Paradise.  Come on down and support the junior class in fundraising for colored senior yearbook pictures!

- - - JUNIORS - - - Donations for the rummage sale are being accepted until Wednesday, March 10.  Please drop of donations, such as old clothes, books, dishes, furniture, etc. at Mrs. Poai's (U203), Mrs. Okuna's, or Mrs. Akiona's (counselor's office). - L. Takahashi

CONGRATULATIONS DECA CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS

Congratulations to all conference participants, Jaimelee Aguiar, Mary Ann Camba, Ashley Davis, Jonathan Leithead, Anne Matsusaka, Kehaulani Puniwai, Kody Shimabukuro, Tiffany Yabuta, and Marisa You who worked hard at prepping for this annual event.  Congratulations to Marisa You who won a medallion for Retail Merchandising and Anne Matsusaka, who won 2 medallions, a finalist medal and overall 2nd place trophy in Retail Merchandising. - S. ATHLETIC SERVICE COMMITTEE:

Please come and sign up in E-103 for girl's basketball concession. - D. Tanabe

CANNED GOODS:

and non-perishable items are being accepted until this Friday in E-103.  If we bring in the most poundage, we will win a concert by Sudden Rush. - D. Tanabe

B.O.E. ELECTION:

If you do not have a social studies class this semester, come to E-103 and vote in the Board of Education election.  Deadline is this Friday. - D. Tanabe

JUNIORS

We need your help!  Garage sale items such as toys, household items, clothes, books, etc. are needed by this Friday for our March 20th garage sale.  Proceeds will help defray the cost of your yearbook senior colored photos.  See Ashley Asano, Kacie Miura, Mrs. Okuna or Mrs. Bright-Poai if you have any questions. - L. HAWAIIAN CLUB

Meeting on Thursday, March 11, 2004 during morning recess in room C102.  Forms will be distributed for visit with Okinawan students. - K. Kaleohano

MATH LEAGUE

Practices for Meet #5 will begin on Tuesday, March 9, and continue to Thursday, March 18.  Practices will be afterschool in room U203 everyday except Wednesdays.  Mandatory practice will on Monday, April 5.  Meet #5 will be on Wednesday, April 7, at Honoka'a High School.  Please pick up permission form from U203 and pay your bus fare if you are going to the last meet. - C. Testing is during pd. 1 today.  Please send your gr. 10 students to the cafeteria after taking attendance.  Teachers who do not have a class during pd. 1, your assistance at the cafeteria would be greatly appreciated. - T. Kawada
