GENERAL

HCPS II PREP WORKSHOP

WHS and Ku Ha'aheo will be offering a HCPS II Prep Workshop during Spring Intersession where students will be able to learn valuable strategies for the upcoming test.  HCPS II Reading is available for 9th graders from March 29 - March 31, and HCPS II Math Prep is available for 10th graders from March 31 - April 2.  Please sign in in C101 by March 12 if you are interested.  Mahalo. - K. DECA STORE CLOSED

The DECA Store and the Waiakea SFF Student Credit Union will be closed on March 3-5 (Wednesday through Friday).  The DECA students will be attending the Hawaii State CTSO Convention. - S. Kojima

JNROTC ANNUAL INSPECTION

The Waiakea High School NJROTC Unit will have its annual inspection on Monday, March 8, 2004.  All cadets must be at the mandatory personnel inspection and drill from 10:00  until 12:00.   Additionally, Cadet Staff members will be required to be in the NJROTC spaces from 8:15 until 2:15 for various inspection functions.   - Capt. WAIAKEA COMPLEX PROCEDURES

WHS Students are reminded to obey the following procedures when using the other Waiakea Schools property:  1. Obtain a Complex pass if you travel through the other schools boundaries.  2. Keep away from all buildings  3. Use only the roadways to travel through their property.  4. Follow their rules i.e. No Hats, no loitering and no profanity.  If you refuse to follow these rules then you will be issued a "No Trespass Notice" and HPD will get involved.   - S. Ozaki

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

HAWAII COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY:  for seniors from East Hawaii who intend to pursue a career in the healing arts.   Copy of FAFSA & two letters of reference required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  3 - $1,000 scholarships.  Deadline:  April 2nd.

KTA/BIIF SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP:  for seniors attending a high school in the BIIB & participating in BIIF sports.  Athletic achievement, academic record, community service considered.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $1,000.  Deadline:  receipt by May 3rd. 

DAVID S. ISHII FOUNDATION:  for seniors who are an active member of a high school golf team.  Financial need may be considered.  Short essay required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  4 - $2,000 grants (2 female & 2 male).  Deadline:  May 1st.

SOCIETY OF THE FRIENDLY SONS OF SAINT PATRICK OF HAWAII:  for seniors who are US citizens & residents of Hawaii.  Scholastic achievement, financial need & extra-curricular activities considered.  Two letters of reference required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  up to $1,500.  Deadline:  April 30th.

MORE SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

JACK & OTOME MIYASHIRO:  for seniors whose parent or legal guardian is a resident of the County of Hawaii.  Two letters of recommendation  & two essays required.  Extra-curricular activities considered.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $2,000.  Deadline:  April 16th.

ALOHA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP FUND:  for seniors whose parent is a member of any Uniformed Service of the US, living in Hawaii & enrolling at an institution in Hawaii, or any child or grandchild of a member of the Aloha Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).  Applications available in GRAC.  Value: $1,000.  Deadline:  receipt by April 30th.

KOREAN UNIVERSITY CLUB:  for seniors who are a resident of Hawaii, a US citizen & at least part Korean.  Applicant must demonstrate financial need and intend to enroll in an accredited college or university in Hawaii.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  1 - four year scholarship.  Deadline:  April 10th. - T. LIBRARY COMPUTER USE

The library computers were not in use yesterday and will again be off limits today.  This is because

two mouseballs were stolen on Wednesday afternoon.  This is not the first time this has happened.  I am very disturbed about this type of juvenile behaviour by a few students, which causes the rest of us to be punished. - G. Kobayashi

WARRIOR PRIDE PREVAILS AT WHS:   

Mahalo to junior Pomai Thoene for his honesty in returning money that was found in the Coca-cola machine in E-103. We would like to reward him with a free 6" Subway sandwich, a bottle of soda, a Jamba Juice coupon and various snacks.  Honesty pays! - D. Tanabe

HISTORY DAY

Hawaii Island History Day will be held at Waiakea High School on Saturday, March 6th.  Many Waiakea High students will have displays, documentaries, essays and performances entered.  The public is welcome to view the documentaries and performances from 9:00-11:00 in classrooms in building B, and the displays from 12:15-12:45 in the cafeteria. - H. COAST GUARD

Kevin Hiro, Coast Guard Recruiter, will be in GRAC on Tuesday, March 9th at 10:30 a.m.  Interested Juniors & Seniors should come to GRAC for a pass. - T. Kawada

WATER POLO MEETING

All girls interested in playing water polo this season are to meet with Coach Lyons on Monday, March 8th @ Kawamoto Pool.  The meeting will start at 3:00pm so please be prompt. - K. Yamase
