SAT PREP WORKSHOP

Ku Ha'aheo will once again be offering a SAT Prep Workshop during Spring Intersession for anyone taking the SAT and/or looking to improve their scores.  Classes will run March 29 - April 2, from 8:00 AM - 12:15 PM.  Cost for this workshop is $17.00.  Please sign up in C101 if you are interested by Friday, March 5, 2004.  Mahalo. - K. HCPS II PREP WORKSHOP

WHS and Ku Ha'aheo will be offering a HCPS II Prep Workshop during Spring Intersession where students will be able to learn valuable strategies for the upcoming test.  HCPS II Reading is available for 9th graders from March 29 - March 31, and HCPS II Math Prep is available for 10th graders from March 31 - April 2.  Please sign in in C101 by March 12 if you are interested.  Mahalo. - K. STUDENT PARKING LOT - CONSTRUCTION SITE SAFETY

Please use extreme caution when entering, exiting and walking in the Student Parking Lot.  Due to the reconstruction of "R" Bldg., there is a lot of heavy equipment operation in the area.  The Contractor and their workers take all the precautions that is necessary to ensure your safety.  Your attention in this area will help.  If the area around the construction storage site is 'coned-off', use the mauka exit to leave the parking lot.  Again, please be careful and drive slowly in this area.   - S. COAST GUARD

Kevin Hiro, Coast Guard Recruiter, will be in GRAC on Tuesday, March 9th at 10:30 a.m.  Interested Juniors & Seniors should come to GRAC for a pass. - T. Kawada

MORE SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

MERRIMAN'S RESTAURANT:  for seniors who plan to become a full-time student in the Food Service program at either the HCC campus or at the UH Center at West Hawaii. Two letters of recommendation required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  2 - $1,050 scholarships.  Deadline:  March 31st.

HILO BUDDHIST FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY:  for seniors whose parent/guardian or self is a member in good standing of the Honpa Hongwanji on the island of Hawaii.  Character and participation in church-related activities considered.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  2 - $750 scholarships.  Deadline:  Receipt by April 24th.

HSTA HILO CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP:  for seniors who have at least one parent belonging to HSTA Hilo Chapter. Academic achievement, resume, personal statement, three letters of reference required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $600.  Deadline:  Receipt by:  April 16th.

EAST HAWAII DISTRICT TENNIS ASSOCIATION:  for seniors that have shown an interest in playing tennis.  Scholastic record, financial need & two letters of recommendation required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  3 - $500 scholarships.  Deadline:  Receipt by April 19th.

DECA STORE CLOSED

The DECA Store and the Waiakea SFF Student Credit Union will be closed on March 3-5 (Wednesday through Friday).  The DECA students will be attending the Hawaii State CTSO Convention. - S. Kojima

TELEPHONE BOOK DRIVE:

One hundred dollars will be presented to the sophomore class for turning in 585 telephone books.  They were followed by the freshmen with 525 books, the seniors with 143, and the juniors with 132.  Thanks to everyone, our phone book drive brought in 1385 books!  Congratulations on a job well done! - D. VARIETY SHOW & TALENT COMPETITION 2004:

was a huge success thanks to chairpersons Diedre Omori, Alysha Cabral, Erin Okumoto, Aimi Mizutani, head advisor, Mr. Barnes, and all of the participants.  Extra variety show t-shirts are still on sale in E-103 for $8.00.  If you are interested in purchasing a VHS ($10) or DVD ($15) copy of the Variety Show, see any  webmaster in the computer lab. - D. MEETINGS

DISNEYLAND GRAD NITE  

A meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd, in GRAC, during lunch recess.  All seniors who are planning to attend GRAD NITE at Disneyland, and all juniors interested in attending GRAD NITE next year, should be present at this meeting. - T. Kawada

General meeting this morning in H-105 during 1st recess. Please don't forget your tickets and monies.

FACULTY & STAFF

HAWAII STATE ASSESSMENT

All grade 10 students will be taking the Hawaii State Assessment beginning Tuesday, March 2nd in the Cafeteria during pd. 2.  Grade 10 students should be sent to the cafeteria for testing.  Testing schedules were distributed earlier to teachers.  Please see Toni Sakai-Kawada if you need a schedule or have any questions. - T. DISMISSAL OF ATHLETES

This is a reminder to please excuse the members of the swim team for any absenses for Monday, March 1st.  This is due to the fact that they could not return to Hilo until 1:00pm on 3/1.
