GENERAL

REMINDER OF WHS POLICIES

Students and teachers are reminded to comply with the WHS Dress Code Policy, along with School Prohibited Conduct which includes Contraband and Inappropriate Displays of Affection (PDA).  Please refer to WHS Student Conduct Handbook for definitions and punishments.  Teachers shall report all infractions violated to Mr. Jay Serain, VP.  Students will be referred by administration for disciplinary action and parent conference. - J. LIKO A'E SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTATION

SIERRA STUDENT COALITION

This is to announce a proposed ammendment to our club's constitution by an appointed commitee:  an attendance policy that states that upon three unexcused absences from the club the member will be kicked out of the club.  We will vote on this issue Friday Feb. 20th during morning recess. - L. Fox

DRIVING SAFETY

Safety reminder for Students:  Drivers exiting from the Student Parking lot are not allowed to make a right turn from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. - S. Ozaki

"THE MUSIC'S GOT ME"

2004 Variety Show and Talent Competition tickets are on sale through class reps and in E-103. Cost is $4 presale or $5 at the door, Show is set for February 28, 6:30 pm in our warrior gym - D. Tanabe

ELECTIONS 2004:

Nomination forms may be picked up in E-103 for students interested in running for 2004-2005 class and SGA offices.  Forms must be returned by next Weds., Feb. 25. - D. Tanabe

DECA STORE CLOSED!

The DECA Store and Waiakea SFF Student Credit Union will be CLOSED on Friday, February 20th during lunch recess.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but Mrs. Kojima will be on Oahu.  Thank you. - S. Kojima

CONGRATULATIONS WHS KEY CLUB!

This past weekend on O'ahu, the Waiakea High Key Club participated in Division 22 (entire state) Convention and brought back 10 awards.  Club awards included - Outstanding Small Club, 1st place Spirit Award, 1st place Quiz Bowl, 2nd place Scrapbook, 2nd place Outstanding Single Service project.  Individual awards went to Evan Alicuben for Outstanding Member and 1st place Oratory, Jonathan Paranada - Outstanding Treasurer, Jonathan Yu - Outstanding Secretary, Lynn Nakagawa - 2nd place Impromptu Essay. - K. YOUNG AT ART 2004

Congratulation to the following Warrior artists whose creative efforts were accepted and will be showcased in this year's Hawaii District Young at Art Show. There were approximately 600 entries out of which the judges chose less than 200 for this year's exhibit.  Nathan Braceros - oil pastels (Juror's Choice Award), pencil (Award of Recognition); Andrew Hara - ceramic sculpture (Award of Recognition), photography (Award of Recognition); Carrisa Vieira - pencil (Award of Recognition), pencil, ceramic; Jessica Carvalho - ceramic; Aaron Chun - ceramic; Brandy Harada - ceramic; Ashley Hare - ceramic; Micah Hiramoto - ceramic; Ashley Kuwahara - ceramic; Shawn Lau - ceramic; Kacie Miura - oil painting; Tracey Okutsu - ceramic; Maury Shimizu - ceramic.  Please join the students for the show's opening and awards ceremony on March 6 at 10 am at the East Hawaii Cultural Center. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

HAWAII ISLAND LANDSCAPE ASSOCIATION:  for seniors planning to enroll in any college or university program in horticulture, landscaping or agriculture. Must demonstrate financial need.  Scholastic honors, activities/work history, community activities all considered.  Personal statement & lettter of reference required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $500.  Deadline:  April 30th.

HAWAII ISLAND UNITED HONGWANJI BUDDHIST WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION:  for seniors who are active members of the Honpa Hongwanji on the island of Hawaii.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  2 - $750 scholarships.  Deadline:  April 15th.

HUI OKINAWA SCHOLARSHIP:  for seniors who will be attending an accredited two or four year college in the fall of 2004.  Letter of recommendation & two essays required.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value: 2 - $1,000 scholarships.  Deadline:  April 16th.

BIG ISLAND RETIRED MILITARY ASSOCIATION:  for seniors whose parent(s) are active duty or retired from military service.  Students who have completed two years in JROTC also eligible.  Minimum GPA of 2.8 required.  Student must plan to attend an accredited college in Hawaii on a full-time basis.  Applications available in GRAC.  Value:  $500.  Deadline:  April 30th - T. Kawada

SCIENCE CLUB

Members are needed to staff the snack bar before and after school.  Talk to Mr. Cahill B103 ASAP - M. Cahill

TALENT SHOW PARTICIPANTS

There will be a MANDATORY talent show meeting on Monday February 23, 2004 in M102.  If you do not attend, we will cut you from the show because Variety Show is within a week.  Hope to see you there!   - D. Barnes
