SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

WAIAKEA LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP:  for graduating senior from Waiakea High or St. Joe planning to attend Hawaii Community College in a vocational or technical degree program.  Academic potential, community service & financial need must be demonstrated. Applications available in GRAC.  Deadline:  receipt by February 27th.

HELEN GASCON SCHOLARSHIP:  for any senior accepted in an undergraduate program of study in Family & Consumer Science.  Letter of application, three letters of reference & letter of acceptance required.  Come to GRAC for more information.  Value:  minimum of $1,000.  Deadline:  April 2nd.

PROMISING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE TUITION WAIVER:  for seniors planning to enroll at least half-time at Honolulu Community College.  Personal statement explaining why senior should be selected to receive tuition waiver & personal data sheet or resume due to Mrs. Kawada by:  April 7th.

NGO WONG LOO & MAN KWONG LOO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  for seniors planning to enroll at Hawaii Community College.  Minimum GPA of 2.5, personal statement & demonstration of financial need required.  Come to GRAC for more information. Deadline:  April 16th.

REMINDER OF WHS POLICIES

Students and teachers are reminded to comply with the WHS Dress Code Policy, along with School Prohibited Conduct which includes Contraband and Inappropriate Displays of Affection (PDA).  Please refer to WHS Student Conduct Handbook for definitions and punishments.  Teachers shall report all infractions violated to Mr. Jay Serain, VP.  Students will be referred by administration for disciplinary action and parent conference. - J. HELP FIGHT HUNGER!

 Island Food Bank is teaming up to stomp out hunger in Hawaii and is challenging all high schools to participate. The winning school that collects the most pounds of non-perishable and canned goods between Feb. 17 and March 12 will get a free SUDDEN RUSH concert.  Bring in your donations to E-103 as soon as possible as weigh-in will be held every Friday until March 12.  We can do it, Warriors! - D. SIERRA STUDENT COALITION

This is to announce a proposed ammendment to our club's constitution by an appointed commitee:  an attendance policy that states that upon three unexcused absences from the club the member will be kicked out of the club.  We will vote on this issue Friday Feb. 20th during morning recess. - L. Fox

DRIVING SAFETY

Safety reminder for Students:  Drivers exiting from the Student Parking lot are not allowed to make a right turn from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. - S. Ozaki

"THE MUSIC'S GOT ME"

2004 Variety Show and Talent Competition tickets are on sale through class reps and in E-103. Cost is $4 presale or $5 at the door, Show is set for February 28, 6:30 pm in our warrior gym - D. Tanabe

 

ELECTIONS 2004:

Nomination forms may be picked up in E-103 for students interested in running for 2004-2005 class and SGA offices.  Forms must be returned by next Weds., Feb. 25. - D. Tanabe

DECA STORE CLOSED!

The DECA Store and Waiakea SFF Student Credit Union will be CLOSED on Friday, February 20th during lunch recess.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but Mrs. Kojima will be on Oahu.  Thank you. - S. Kojima

CONGRATULATIONS WHS KEY CLUB!

This past weekend on O'ahu, the Waiakea High Key Club participated in Division 22 (entire state) Convention and brought back 10 awards.  Club awards included - Outstanding Small Club, 1st place Spirit Award, 1st place Quiz Bowl, 2nd place Scrapbook, 2nd place Outstanding Single Service project.  Individual awards went to Evan Alicuben for Outstanding Member and 1st place Oratory, Jonathan Paranada - Outstanding Treasurer, Jonathan Yu - Outstanding Secretary, Lynn Nakagawa - 2nd place Impromptu Essay. - K. Sato
