GENERAL

KSBE SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

Hawaiian Seniors who want the schedule of Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate Scholarship and Financial Aid Workshops in Hilo, Come to C 101.  KSBE has scheduled workshops from December to March for students and their parents to get help in filling out the scholarship and financial aid applications.  January 21st at 8:30am will be at WHS. : - P. MATH LEAGUE

Practices for Meet #3 begin on Tuesday, January 20, and continue till Friday, January 30.  No practices will be held on Wednesdays.  Our next meet is on Saturday, January 31. - C. Mizuno

UH VISITATION/FINANCIAL AID FAIR

Native Hawaiian students who are interested in attending or have applied to UH Manoa.  Ku Ha'aheo is sponsoring a UH visitation on Wednesday, February 4, 2004.  Students interested in attending should pick up an application form in room C101 ASAP.  Applications are due by Friday, January 23, 2004.   - K. REMEDIAL CLASSES

Ku Ha'aheo will once again be offering remedial classes after school in English and Math for credit.  Students who need to make up credits should come to C101 to sign up ASAP.  Last day to sign up is Friday, January 23, 2004.  No exceptions. - K. Kaleohano

PERSONAL HEALTH STRATEGIES

Ku Ha'aheo will be offering a Personal Health Strategies class (HL41) after school beginning on January 26, 2004 for credit.  Students who need to make up an elective credit should sign up in C101.  Last day to sign up is Friday, January 23, 2004. - K. Kaleohano

KAMEHAMEHA SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP

A workshop will be held for seniors w/ hawaiian ancestry at WHS library on Wednesday, January 21st at 8:30 a.m.  Seniors interested in information regarding Kamehameha Scholarships, come to GRAC for a pass.  Parents are also invited to attend so seniors are encouraged to pass the word on to their parents. - T. FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP

A free Financial Aid Workshop for seniors and their parents will be held on Thursday, January 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Waiakea High School cafeteria.  Information will include how the Financial Aid process works, how to complete the FAFSA and information on State & Private Scholarships and Financial Aid Web Sites.  College bound seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend. - T. KIWIN'S RICHARDSON CLEAN-UP POSTPONED AND SWIM-TEAM HELP INSTEAD

The park/beach clean-up will be postponed until a later day.  Instead, the Swim Team has asked us to help out with timing this Saturday at the Kawamoto pool.  It would be from 9:30am to 1:00pm.  You would be provided with  refreshemnts during the 1/2 hour break.  Please see Mrs. Keller to verify Richardson's cancellation and or to sign-up for this project instead.  Thanks! - C. LAST WEEK TO ORDER YEARBOOKS

Yearbook orders will be taken during the week of January 20-23 during lunch recess in Mrs. King's class (D 201).  This is your last chance to order a 2003-04 yearbook.  No extra books will be ordered, so make sure you purchase one now. - P. King

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

FUKUNAGA SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION:  students who want to pursue studies in business administration at an accredited 4 year college.  Scholarship value is $2,500 per year.  Applications avaialable at GRAC.  Deadline: February 15, 2004.

COMMITMENT TO AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:  for 100 high school seniors who come from a farm family and plan to pursue a career in agriculture.  Applications available in GRAC or at www.Monsanto.com or www.NAFB.com.  Deadline:  February 15, 2004.  - T. Kawada

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

ZONTA CLUB OF HILO: open to female seniors with evidence of leadership, community service and dedicated to the advancement of the status of women.  Requires several essays and two letters of recommendation.  Deadline:  February 20, 2004.  Come to GRAC for more information. - T. Kawada

MORE SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SPIRIT SCHOLARSHIP: for students planning to attend HPU.  Requirements include minimum GPA of 2.5 and outstanding extracurricular involvement in high school.  Value:  50% Tuition waiver.  Application available in GRAC.  Deadline:  February 16th.

HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  for students planning to attend HPU.  Requirements include minimum GPA of 3.5 and SAT combined score of 1100 or ACT score of 24.  Application available in GRAC.  Deadline:  February 16th.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MILITARY COMPTROLLERS (ASMC-Aloha Chapter): for students entering a field of study directly related to financial/resource management.  Two letters of recommendation required.  Value: one $1,000 & two $500 scholarships. Applications available in GRAC.  Deadline: received by February 27th.

NATIVE HAWAIIAN LEADERSHIP PROJECT:  for Hawaiian students who intend to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4 year college. FAFSA and minimum GPA of 3.2 required.  Application forms available in GRAC.  Deadline:  March 1st.

HAHPERD-THE HAWAII ASSOCIATION FOR HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, RECREATION & DANCE: for students interested in pursuing a career in teaching health education, physical education, dance or recreation leadership.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and two letters of recommendation.  Applications available in GRAC.  Deadline:  March 1st.

 The Waiakea SFF Student Credit Union will officially open today.   We will be open during lunch recess so stop by, pick up an application form, OR drop off your completed form with parent signature, parent/student photocopy of ID (if you don't have a driver's license or state ID, birth certificate and social security card must be photocopied) and OPEN AN ACCOUNT TODAY!  If you open an account anytime from the 20th to the 30th, you will be eligible for our GRAND PRIZE DRAWING for 2 Round Trip Interisland Tickets and 6 $25 Prince Kuhio Gift Certificates.  Grand prize winners will be announced on Friday, January 30th, on the OFFICIAL GRAND OPENING of our credit union.  Must be present to win.  - S. SENIOR T-SHIRTS

Seniors, it's time to order your class t-shirt.  E-103 morning and lunch recess from Jan. 21-Jan. 30.  Cost is $12.00 S-XL and $13.00 XXL or larger.  For your name to be printed on the shirt, you must have paid your dues and filled out the publication consent form.  Check the list at E-103 to see if your name is on and if it is spelled correctly... we will NOT be responsible for any misspelled names. - J. APPLICATIONS FOR GIFTED AND TALENTED ENGLISH CLASSES

If you are interested in enrolling in a G/T English class next year, you must apply.  See Mrs. Naungayan in D204 for an application and to sign up for the test. - S. Naungayan

SPORTS

TENNIS TRYOUTS

Tennis tryouts will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20th at the Waiakea High courts.  Boy's practice begins at 3:30 and the girls will start at 4:00.  Make sure parental consent and physical forms are completed prior to the 20th. - K. Yamase

GIRL'S GOLF PARENT MEETING

All girls who signed up for the golf team and their parents are to attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 21st in the library at 7:00pm.  Team forms and season information will be discussed. - K. Yamase

READING CHALLENGE BOOK DONATIONS:

are being accepted in E-103 until this Friday.  All children's books will be read at the mall, tomorrow, 10 am till 12 noon outside of Regis Salon.  Donated books will then be donated to an organization/school.   - D. Tanabe
